As much as I love this game and what it has to offer as a online competitive game, I highly do not recommend it for the biggest problem the game has, its online community. It has so many toxic players, I ran out of fingers and toes to count on. The toxic level of this game is far more greater than any other game I have played online.
Psyonix LLC claim to be doing something about this by stepping up the Abusive or Harassment guidelines, but they have over stepped it by far more than I imagined.

I do not know if they have a system in place that counts how many reports you have and automatically ban you for X amount of days, but if they do, it is the wrong approach. I have been a victim of a false ban in this game. I do not use text chat or voice chat, but I only use quick chat. I received a 3 day ban from them for Abusive or Harassment with no evidence supplied on the screen. So I submitted a ticket to appeal the ban. The only answer I got back was "If you are banned, you are banned. We will not lift the ban".
They have stopped caring. Bad approach for a developer. I submitted the ticket asking for the evidence of this ban, they down right refused to provide any, so I was banned for 3 days unjustified because some little dickletts abuse the report system.

So unless you can look past all the toxic players, it is a great online game and you will have a lot of fun with it.
If you cannot stand toxic players, do not buy this game unless you have a good mind set to ignore all the crap that gets said to you. It is pathetic and it is pointless. It goes to show that the world is not as kind as we would hope it to be.

I prefer to play against PlayStation players because they cannot type in chat, only use quick chat which is much more less toxic than the PC players in this game. Only problem is, you can disable cross platform gameplay, but you cannot disable yourself off from the toxic PC players.

So buy this game, but make sure your sanity is in check first before you do.
