Mechabellum squarely falls into the auto-battler category (you buy / draft units and they attack automatically).

If that appeals to you, there is a lot of like here. The unit roster is large, with several ways to customize each unit. Your army will rarely, if ever, be the same as someone else. The variety of units also makes for this complex version of rock-paper-scissors each match. You will spend each match trying to update, or draft new units, while also guessing what units your opponent will draft. While the options are complex, the gameplay is easy enough to understand. You place units on your grid and they attack the other side. It is the choices in tech and positioning that truly determine the winner each match.

If you like auto-battlers, this is one to check out.

After my first 10 (or so) hours with The Finals, I've come to a few conclusions:

- It's great to have something new in the competitive FPS genre. The combination of classes, environmental destruction, and gunplay mechanics make for one of the most unique shooters in many years.

- The small team size, unique weapons set, and high health pools make every member of the team extremely important, and ultimately this hurts the ability for solo players to do well. Most pick up groups are chaos, with team members running around, usually uncoordinated. This problem is made worse by the large health pools.

- Given the unique characteristics of the gameplay mechanics, certain class builds, and weapons, are grossly more powerful than others, especially builds that abuse gameplay elements such as stealth. Now that "meta" builds are emerging, players must use those builds or be a severe disadvantage.

There is a lot to like about The Finals, and Embark should be very excited they have a "hit" on their hands. It's just not the game for me. I would love to see something like a 5v5 mode added, or the game expand to other objective based arenas (hold the zone, capture the flag). The current setup doesn't work for me but I'm sure others will enjoy it.
