The good:
+ Amazing story with some heartwarming and emotional moments. While all 7 chapters are amazing in different way, IMO chapter V is the best one.
+ Some decent characters with great development.
+ Fine world building. While there are some unanswered question about it, i don't mind it since the MC isn't the hero of the story.
+ Very beautiful artstyle. I also appreciate 16:9 aspect ratio and usage of blurred environment rather than black color as background.
+ Neat soundtrack which emphasize the story/atmosphere.
+ LOTS of choices. Each choice has different degree of impact or when you could see the outcome.

The bad:
- There's no option to run/dash. It's big bummer considering there's decent amount of exploration and really hurt replayability value.

The ugly:
* Lack of integer scaling, which is a shame since this game has very beautiful artstyle.

If you're fan of story-rich game (especially To The Moon or Rakuen), you definitely should buy and play this game. I really wish this game is more popular.

Few important messages before the review
1. Play OMORI blindly! DO NOT look for any article, guides, videos, social media or review (that might have unmarked spoiler).
2. OMORI is amazing game and it's my favorite game of all time. But it's NOT a game for everyone mainly due to heavy themes. I never care about age rating/content description, but OMORI is the only exception i would made and so should you.
3. This review is rewritten after beating the game 3 times, explore all route/ending and unlock all achievements. All spoiler/potential spoiler is hidden under spoiler tag.

The good:
+ Amazing story, it's one of a kind on video game medium
+ Very rich and unique world building
+ Lovely character with fantastic development

+ Very beautiful and charming hand-drawn art/animation
+ Marvelous soundtrack. I frequently play it and never get bored although it's been half year since i beat OMORI for first time
+ Solid (psychological) horror atmosphere

+ Creative game mechanism
+ Some anti-frustration features
+ Choices matter with multiple routes and endings
+ Great replayability if you play different route or play same route, but missed small detail/optional quest (you could miss LOTS of them) on previous playthrough

The bad:
- Some grinding is required
- Weak gameplay progression. You only can choose 4 skill in battle, few areas are very difficult on earlier stage of the story, there are only 2 kinds of equipable items and no new game mechanic on halfway the story
- Basil should have more screentime/backstory, mainly because his involvement on recital day

The ugly:
* Sometimes it's confusing what to do to continue the main story

I have played many story-rich (Mass Effect, Pillars of Eternity, Divinity, etc.) and some RPGMaker-esque game (OneShot, Undertale, Rakuen, etc.). I also have played and reviewed few hundred games. But OMORI just hit me differently. For few months, there's almost no day where i don't think about OMORI.

This is the only video game where i emotionally invested the whole time. Each character have unique personality with deep character depth (I would use term "Three-dimensional character" or "Multi-dimensional character" as well) and i really enjoy interaction between them. I could really fell and empathize what the main character feel and what he went through. I wish i could give him a big hug and say "You did great overcoming your mistake. Please forgive yourself!".

It sounds exaggerating, but it's one of very few video games that have big impact on my life. I certainly don't have much experience on depression, anxiety and suicide. But OMORI portray those topic quite well, especially it's lasting impact on yourself and people around you. I was pretty ignorant about importance of mental health, but now i understand about it a bit more and realize how important is mental health.

While the gameplay is weakest part of the game, OMORI is truly amazing game and it's one of a kind that you can't find elsewhere. If you're fan of story-rich and/or RPGMaker-esque game, you definitely should play this game. But even if you're not, please consider OMORI for your next purchase/free time. You might feel confusing/weird on first 30 minutes - 2 hours, but it'll be worth later on.

Thank you OMOCAT and other people involved in OMORI development for one of a kind experience that i will cherish and won't forget.
