While this DLC does have some really cool additions such as Freaks of Nature, which are essentially boss zombies, a lot of it is lacking in almost every single way. The new map is visually very boring, with little to no variety between the wheat fields and rocky mountains, has way too many bombers and volatiles, and little to no parkour elements. New characters are completely forgettable and having to repair your buggy all the time becomes an extreme annoyance.

I do praise Techland on attempting something new though, but I don't feel like this DLC properly portrays Dying Light's gameplay. It's almost as if it was a cancelled Dead Island DLC that they reused.

A great game ruined by little to no bugtesting. To make this clear, I've beaten this game twice, and the original Hotline Miami over 10 times, so don't think this is just someone complaining because they're bad.

Lets start with the positives. The game still maintains the Hotline Miami feel, both visually and gameplay-wise. You still select different masks for different traits, except this time you don't get to choose any mask you want. All characters have a selection of masks anywhere between 1 to 5, each with their own special abilities, such as the ability to perform a dodge roll, or control two characters at once. The story has been greatly expanded upon, introducing new storylines and even clearing up some uncertainties from the original Hotline Miami. The soundtrack is awesome, as to be expected from a Hotline Miami game.

Now... the negatives. This game has terrible input lag, making it near impossible to play with a keyboard and mouse. It's a bit more bearable with a controller, but naturally you're putting yourself at a disadvantage by using a controller. There's no way to fix the input lag, either. It doesn't matter if you're in fullscreen, windowed, borderless, or have vsync on or off, the input lag is here to stay. Hitboxes on dog enemies are TERRIBLE. Out of their entire sprite, I'd reckon 15% is actually hitbox. I think they may have just recycled the human hitbox and put it on the dog sprite. I swear dog hitboxes weren't this bad in the original Hotline Miami. You can literally get stuck in levels by going through a level transition. Sometimes it places you behind the next area's level transition to go back into the area you were just in, therefore preventing you from being able to progress. Also you can straight up just walk out of the map on almost every single level. There's also a level creator, but it's not public, and there's no Steam Workshop support to share maps.

All in all, I recommend the original Hotline Miami, but not this one.

DEADBOLT is a "linear" sidescrolling "puzzle" shooter. The levels themselves are non-linear as they can be completed however you want, but you get no choice on which missions to take and there's no branching story lines or side quests. The puzzle aspect stems from certain objectives and enemies. There are no "logic puzzles" per se, instead you'll be racking your brain trying to figure out "how do I clear a room with 12 enemies in it, when I only have 6 bullets?" There's a plethora of guns and melee weapons for you to utilize, some can be purchased before missions and brought with you, while some can only be found during levels.

DEADBOLT reminds me a lot of Hotline Miami. You take one bullet, no matter where, and you're dead.

Your enemies, however, aren't going to go down nearly as easily. Accuracy is key in DEADBOLT. If you're not getting headshots, you're wasting bullets. If you're wasting bullets, you're not going to survive very long. It's not uncommon to end a level with 90% accuracy with 100% headshots, because that's what the game demands of you. Nothing but the best.

The gameplay, visuals and soundtrack are incredible. Hopoo Games have proven that the greatness behind Risk of Rain was no fluke.

I paid full price for this game and I am very happy with that purchase. DEADBOLT's campaign is approximately 6 hours long, and hard mode is unlocked after completion. There is also a full level editor, with Steam Workshop support for extra replay value.

DEADBOLT easily gets a 10/10 from me. I warmly welcome whatever Hopoo Games releases next!

Early Access-recension
Terrible hit detection. It just flat out doesn't work. Not much else to say... Competitive multiplayer shooter with severely broken hit detection is not a good combination. Shoot a motionless player point blank with a shotgun, no damage. Run over a motionless target with a vehicle, no damage. Also vehicles are extremely weak and explode with only a handful of bullets...

The gameplay itself isn't my cup of tea. I can't fairly evaluate the gameplay as I prefer games which you get into the action frequently and quickly. This is not that kind of game. You'll be spending most of your time wandering around, looting, and heading towards the safe zone. If you enjoy the gameplay in survival titles such as DayZ, then you'll like the gameplay of King of the Kill.

I can't really recommend an alternative to this game. At the moment, almost all "Battle Royale" style games are pretty bad. PLAYERUNKNOWN's Battlegrounds seems to be the most popular, but is more expensive, and is terribly optimized. The Culling is more about melee combat, and is in an even worse state of disrepair. All three of these game feature microtransactions, so pick your poison.

There's only like two things I can find to complain about in this game. One, the intro drags on way too long. I suppose if the game released as intended with Ground Zeroes being the tutorial, it'd be much easier to stomach what's essentially an hour long cutscene if you already got to play for a couple hours beforehand. Two, while the Metal Gear series has always been known for their eccentric stories, this one just kinda sucks. It was clearly rushed and left unfinished, so a lot of plot threads are undeveloped or go nowhere.

Everything else is great. The gameplay is smoother than a baby's bottom on buttered ice.

Many people play The Forest similar to Minecraft; build, survive, and never even attempt to reach the scripted ending. But I honestly suggest you make an active effort into progressing through The Forest's story, as doing so reveals much more gameplay and depth than you may think.

On the surface, The Forest appears so massive and elaborate that you couldn't even dream of completing the story without a guide, but in reality it's much easier than you think. Even though surviving is an extremely important mechanic, this is not a game about surviving, it's a game about exploring and that's not made very obvious. The bulk of your progress if not all of it will be made through exploring caves and though they appear daunting at first, they aren't actually that bad. There aren't any jumpscares and contain very few (but powerful) enemies. Remember, you can light your weapon on fire by combining it with cloth to make combat easier.

The three items that are required to beat the game (climbing axe, rebreather and keycard) are found in caves, and they aren't hidden either. DO NOT LOOK UP A GUIDE! You will rob yourself of genuinely fun and exciting gameplay. I heard that one these items were impossible to find naturally and I regret looking up their location.

The Forest is a damn good game, and is all the more impressive when you consider it's humble beginnings. A shining example of what Early Access games are capable of.
