A rogue-lite platformer based around a grappling hook and time control. You raid a series of randomly generated space-pirate ships to collect Ghost Gems, which allow you to enter and attack the boss pirate's ship. Unlike a traditional roguelike you don't play through the entire game in a single sitting, each raid is played individually as they're essentially levels. Once you complete one, you can move on to the next or replay any you've already completed. Dying during a raid does not reset your entire progress, it simply brings you back to the raid select screen where you can choose to attempt the same raid again or try a different one.

There's an experience system in which you earn currency to purchase perk cards. As you level up, you gain the ability to equip more perks. Some perks cost more "perk points" than others though, for example the ability to have 10 more health costs less than the ability to shoot three bullets at a time.

It's pretty difficult game, but it doesn't feel like it's supposed to be difficult. The difficulty comes from moving, shooting, dodging and utlizing the grappling hook all at the same time. There's a button dedicated to slowing down time to help you concentrate, but I find myself constantly forgetting to use it. However the only thing I really feel is "unfair" are the spike trap floors, as sometimes they can be obstructed by other objects.

Flinthook's artstyle and animation is great. It has a lot of personality and is extremely polished. You can really tell Flinthook was a labor of love. I want to thank Tribute for listening to feedback and implementing the Dual Stick control scheme. Although they have recieved a lot of hate for it, it's quite literally the best they, or anyone else could do. Thank you, Tribute. I hope that if they make a Flinthook sequel, the grappling hook is used to swing instead of pull. Perhaps add the ability to pull enemies or objects towards yourself? Just a suggestion.

This game is bad. From a technological standpoint, it's buggy, glitchy, unpolished and unoptimized.

From a gameplay standpoint, it's a whole lot worse.

To put it simply, this game does not reward skillful play. In fact, it punishes you for actually playing the game. There is almost no reason to actually fight other players. You are rewarded with in-game currency for doing so, but the only thing it can be spent on is opportunites to spend real money. The only other bonus you get is the chance to loot their bodies. By the time you actually kill another player, there's a good chance you've already got good equipment, so the benefits you earn from killing other players becomes so miniscule that there's really no reason to pick a fight and risk dying. If you want to win, hide in a bush and don't move.

You could put me in a 100 player match with 20 of the world's best PUBG players, and there's a good chance I would make it to the top 20, because I can just camp in a bush all game. That's not strategic. That's not smart. That's not fun. That's not fair. That's cheap. This is coming from someone who has won this way. That win was not fun. In fact, I felt bad for the other player. I've lost a lot of interest in playing the game now that I know actually playing the game is a lost cause, and the #1 easiest way to win is to literally not play the game.

The developers have been trying to make this game an e-sport. This is beyond stupid. This game has an outrageous amount of RNG. The plane spawn location is random, plane flight path is random, loot spawn location is random, vehicle spawn location is random, playzone location is random, redzone location is random, ect., ect.. Not only that, but when prize money is offered, every single player will be camping in bushes. Why would anyone risk dying when real life money is on the line? PUBG as an e-sport will never work.

The 1.0 release of this game is in a practically unplayable state. Unbelievably unfinished. Don't buy this game no matter what. Go outside and hit yourself over the head with a rock 50 times, it's more fun and you'll at least get one kill before dying.

An interesting piece of hardware, but unfortunately, not a very good one.

When a game supports it, it's a lot of fun to use. The touch pad and gyroscope working together to emulate mouse control while the rest of the buttons work as you'd expect gives you the comfort of a controller with the performance of a mouse. There's nothing like it. Unfortunately games rarely support it because it relies on simultaneous mouse / controller input, which without cripples the Steam Controller into forcing it's touch pads or gyroscope to simply emulate an analog stick, and that's terrible and ultimately useless. If you're emulating an analog stick, why not just use an analog stick? Why use the Steam Controller at all? There is an option for "mouse-like analog movement", and once tweaked heavily, and I mean HEAVILY (took me over an hour to get it just right) it still has heavy input lag, making it pretty much worthless.

This controller is really good at playing minimal action, mouse exclusive games like Civilization. It's not really for fast-paced games with a lot of action. Not because bad to use with them, because when it works it's awesome, but because the compatibility is so poor with games of that style. You could map your keyboard to the controller to get around the simultaneous mouse / controller input problem, but then you get no controller prompts in-game and no analog input. Why not just use a mouse and keyboard at that point?

Let's put it this way... If the game you're playing has the mouse cursor visible on-screen at all times, then the Steam Controller will work great with it. Anything else, you're probably better off just using a normal controller.

Pavlov was once top dog amongst multiplayer VR titles, but countless poor decisions have run it into the ground.

Lost 60% of custom maps to ensure feature parity with Quest
Lost 85% of players due to that change
Controls ruined to combat an exploit only seen in competitive (<15% of players)
Crossplay with PSVR but not Quest... ?

Just let it die.

An extremely helpful program, especially for those who have multiple monitors. The program is and always be available for free from his Github. I purchased this program from Steam so I could have automatic updates.

There's a bug where sometimes when you open the program's right click context menu, you can't click any of the options, the window won't go away, and the program must be closed through task manager. Unfortunately, this now happens almost every single time I try to open it, and a patch will never release as the developer abandoned this after using it to advertise their new project.

Onward is a game that had a lot of potential back in 2016. It's almost been 10 years and that potential has yet to be realized. It's dated, overrated, and generally obsolete. Certainly not worth your money, let alone your time.

I remember first hearing about this game in grade three. I was nine years old. I remember what impressed me most was it's physics, the way characters flailed and rolled about as if they were alive, the way each footstep landed realistically amongst the terrain, the way animations procedurally morphed together to create nearly life-like movement, it blew my mind. I remember thinking, "When this game comes out, it will be the best game in the world."

Here we are... Overgrowth is obviously an unfinished game. I'll keep this short. I expected more. But perhaps it's kind of like Half-Life 3. My expectations grew greater and greater with time, and eventually they reached a point that would be impossible to meet. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy this game. I'm not saying that this is a bad game. I'm not saying that the blood, sweat and tears the extremely dedicated development team put into this game was in vain. But what am I saying, is that I'm disappointed.

I remember as a child, reading changelogs for hours on end. I couldn't afford the game, I didn't know how to pirate it, and my computer wouldn't have even been able to run it, so I watched YouTube videos. I watched every single update video. I remember feeling such pride when I purchased this game on Steam with my own hard earned money. I was finally able to support the developers of a game I used to care so much about. But by that point, I had outgrown it. I was still very much interested in the technology behind the game, but the game itself didn't pique my interest anymore.

Then they announced the official release. I played it for a few hours, uninstalled it, and never touched it again.

It's been a ride. I want to thank the developers from the bottom of my heart for the countless hours I spent as a child gawking in awe over their game, it's world, it's characters, and the technology behind it all. But at the end of the day, I just can't bring myself to recommend it. Maybe I'm biased. Probably. Frustrated it wasn't all I had dreamed it would be. I'm still thankful for all the work everyone put into it. But I just can't recommend it.

Take note, indie developers. Hell, even some AAA developers. This is how you polish a game!

You can clearly tell that the developers of Assault Android Cactus loved what they were creating, they shared a creative passion and wanted to bring it to life, to share it with the gaming community. And did they ever! Every single part of this game was polished until chrome, from the characters (each character has a different animation for being selected, cancelling character selection, entering a level, and completing a level, along with different primary and secondary weapons, some of which use completely different mechanics than any other character) to the boss battles (each boss is completely different, with pre-fight dialogue that's different for every character, and after defeating them you unlock new characters) to the arcade style interfaces, complete with credits and drop-ins.

Probably should mention the gameplay, because it's nothing like anything I've ever played. A top-down bullet-hell style game where getting hit doesn't matter, because what's really important is your battery. Taking damage simply stuns you, but when you're on limited battery, you really have to make sure you make every second count. I'm pretty sure that's the game's exact motto. When a battery drops, you (and your friends if you're playing coop) make a beeline for it, because that's your health. You miss a battery, you're as good as dead.

There's even special game modifiers you can buy with your credits, such as AI teammates, or even a fully fledged FIRST PERSON MODE. The developers of this game put effort into something that was completely optional, something I didn't even notice until I already beat the game. That's awesome. That should be the industry standard, like it used to be, where games boasted dozens of cheat codes that let you play it any way you wanted, because they wanted you to ENJOY WHAT THEY CREATED, not so you could line their pockets with cash.

My complaints? The game's pretty short, as the strong point of the game is definitely the boss fights.

I wish I had friends to play it with.

An incredible, but short game. Fantastic soundtrack, great gameplay, unique art style. One of my all time favourite games.

This is a boss rush style game. There's no fighting hordes of enemies, leveling up, looting, or exploring. (If you DO want that, but with the same core gameplay as Furi, try Hyper Light Drifter.) Every boss you face is drastically different than the rest. No two bosses are alike and each one has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

Your character has the ability to teleport short distances, a "blink" if you will. This can be used infinitely, charged up for longer teleports, and has no cooldown. You also have the ability to parry most attacks. Successful parries heal you. You're equipped with a fully automatic pistol and a sword. The gun has infinite ammo, the sword never breaks, and you can charge both up for more powerful attacks.

The gameplay isn't deep or complex. It's very simple once you get used to it. Attack the enemy, dodge attacks. The hard part is not dying. The story isn't extremely deep or convoluted either, but it's interesting enough that even when I felt I couldn't complete a level, I pushed forward to hear what happens next.
