This faction is honestly pretty cool. The DLC itself is a bit expensive but for sure woth to get whenever it's on sale.

Rotwood is a roguelite dungeon crawler that you can play solo or with up to three friends.

Story

Do we really care about the story in roguelite games? Yeah? Okay, here we go. The story is quite simple: The world was dragged into chaos and the main character meets up with a bunch of other people that try to save the world – yeah that’s pretty much it. There isn’t too much depth to the story and that’s fine since it’s a dungeon crawler with roguelite elements which excels at exactly that.

Personal Note

I’ve played the demo version of Rotwood in 2023 and was quite happy with it. The art-style, which Klei Entertainment is known for, is adorable and fits to the overall vibe of the game. The gameplay itself was already pretty decent and worked well.

Fast forwarding a year: It’s 2024 and Rotwood was released into Early Access and I have to say that it’s fun. I played it with a friend and alone and honestly, playing it together with friends is probably the way to go. Not only is it more fun, but you can also just help each other with the grind and you have a little safety net you can bounce on in case you die a bit too quick – the safety net are your friends of course.

Every biome has different mobs and different bosses which means that you sometimes have to change up your gear and strategy to get through those different biomes without too many issues.

Bosses in Rotwood are a bit hit or miss. Some bosses are easy, some have mechanics that you have to do if you want to succeed and some are just cheeseable way too easy if the rng is on your side. I like that you can cheese an entire boss fight but also kind of dislike that the core mechanic is way too stressful for such an adorable little dungeon crawler.

There’s also some progression that is bound to the different weapons that change the way you play. And there are some customization options for your character which is pretty neat.

Conclusion

Is Rotwood worth your money? If you like dungeon crawlers with roguelite elements that come with a unique-ish and adorable art-style – sure!

The game itself isn’t expensive and it’s still in Early Access which means that there is more content coming.

As of writing this review (16.07.2024), there is a little beta going on, in which players can mess around with new powers. There’s also a new biome coming soon.

The only reason why I'm giving this a positive review is the fact that I got this DLC for free because I own Total War: WARHAMMER I: Blood for the Blood God I and Total War: WARHAMMER II: Blood for the Blood God II.

Despite me getting this DLC for free, I think that it's a scummy move from Creative Assembly to put this behind a paywall since it's more expensive than the blood & gore packs from the previous two games and that's why I would advice you to purchase the Blood for the Blood God I or Blood for the Blood God II DLC if you own either or both of the previous two Total War: WARHAMMER games.

I hope that the developers of the Total War franchise realize that making a bit of money from DLCs like this isn't the way to go.

Maybe the only reason why they put DLCs like this behind a paywall is to show off that the main games are safe for kids to play since it's USK 12 and PEGI 16 instead of USK 18 and PEGI 18.

Creative Assembly's current game Total War: PHARAOH has a paid blood DLC as well - sad to see that this trend continues; but at least people on Steam get rewards for reviews like this, eh?

I haven't played Battlefield 4 as much as I've played other titles in the franchise and it certainly wasn't a perfect game but I have to say that Battlefield 4 was the last good Battlefield game with a modern setting.

I personally enjoyed Battlefeld: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3 more but I just gotta hand it to Dice - they used to know how to make decent games. Yes - Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V have their positive sides and I enjoyed playing those two games as well; and yes, Battlefield 2042 is playable nowadays but neither of those three titles reach the greatness of Battlefield 4 to this day.

It's certainly one of those games that you must have experienced when it was released - with all of the bugs, server problems & crashes due big destruction events, the little battlepacks and the DLCs with everything they came with.

It's a good game - oh and it has a campaign, not sure if Battlefield 2042 players know what that is.

It's a certified banger.

Stardew Valley is a cozy farming sim in which the player manages their own farm while slowly uncovering secrets that surround the little town.

Story

The player inherited their grandfather’s old farm plot next to the lovely city called: Pelican Town. Considering that the players isn’t enjoying their office job anymore, they decide to begin their new life in Stardew Valley on the farm plot of their grandfather. The fields are overgrown and the player needs to put a lot of work into their newly acquired farm to make a living from farming. The player meets a lot of new people that live in Pelican Town and sooner or later discovers a few mysterious things while slowly getting to know some of the townsfolk better and better. Can you turn the old farm into a thriving and lucrative farm? Will you dive deeper into the dangerous mines? Will you end up marrying the person you’ve been talking to for weeks? It’s up to you what you do in Stardew Valley.

Personal Note

I bought Stardew Valley back in 2016 when it was released and at first, I kind of didn't like it much - maybe "liking" is the wrong word; I guess I wasn't in the mood for a cozy game and thought about refunding it but I didn't. I pulled through and played it for good 60 hours before not playing it for a couple of years.

In 2023 I picked it up again and realized that there is new content and lots of quality-of-life improvements since I played it the last time. There are a total of 8 different farm maps that you can play on - each come with individual challenges, advantages and disadvantages. The Riverland Farm encourages fishing from the very beginning due to more limited space but different maps like the Meadowlands Farm encourages farming and comes with two chickens by default. There's much more and some features have been in Stardew Valley for a while but I just discovered it when I started playing it again in 2023. I don’t want to spoiler some of the things since I want to keep my reviews spoiler free in general so go out there and explore the game yourself at your own pace.

The multiplayer works amazingly well and is fun if you want to play with your friends. There’s also a farm that focuses on the multiplayer aspect of the game.

You can add mods to Stardew Valley to spice things up, if you get bored of the base game. Some mods only change the appearance of the game, some add a bunch of quality-of-life improvements and some just change up mechanics, make the game easier or harder - depending on what you want or need. Stardew Valley Expanded is a very popular mod that adds 50 more locations, 27 new NPCs and a bunch more - and this is just one of many mods that expand on the base game.

Setting up the mods is pretty simple but it might takes some time if it’s the first time you’re doing it. The official wiki has a tutorial on it which helps a lot in my opinion.

Conclusion

If you think about getting Stardew Valley you should give it a try.
The base game is solid and you can have at least two different playthroughs depending on if you want to rebuild the community center or if you want to go the capitalism route with the JoJaMart. The base game offers more than enough for a price tag of 13,99€ - I personally didn't regret buying it.
