Mad Games Tycoon 2 in Early Access
As of this writing, in my play through I was at the 2005 time period, and 17.3 hours playtime:

I like this game and the potential it holds. I realise its in Early Access and things will change over time. I think its a huge leap over the first Mad Games Tycoon. I like the character it has, the silly names for video games it auto-generates, the mock consoles that are very close to the real life ones but just off enough to avoid a lawsuit.

What I like:
  • 3D Graphics are good
  • Sound effects are pretty good
  • I can develop my own engines and add features to make money and games with.
  • Lots of things to Research, and Features to unlock for use in designing your Games
  • I like how you can develop and build your own consoles and console games.
  • You can make sequels to games, port games to other platforms, make spinoffs, buy licenses to use with games.
  • The UI has a lot of information but everything is laid out well once you know where it is.
  • The employee system is extensive, you can hire applicant from a job pool, or with the marketing department you can find applicants with higher skill, an alternative to training employees. Keeping them happy is as simple as making sure their work area stays clean with a cleaner bot, taking time to decorate the room with rugs, cabinets, posters, plants, coffee machines.
  • You can train employees to increase their skills.
  • You get Fans over time, even have game conventions where you can setup anywhere from a small booth featuring one game to a large booth featuring three games. As you get more and more Fans, you can use Support to help them with their issues and to sell Gaming IP merchandise!

What I dislike and what I hope the developers change:
  • The Soundtrack is sooooo cookie cutter and repetitive. Its like video game elevator music! Honest to God, its probably the annoying repetitive music score that will cause you to quit playing the game! Im not sure exactly how long it is but it feels like maybe there is like 25-30 minutes worth of soundtrack.
  • The Lack of a Campaign, there is at least a sandbox mode and two 'Normal' levels.
  • The next thing the developers need to focus on is the Maps as they too are terrible! Just to give you an idea, the playthrough I started out with one small area, fine. Then there was 2 more small areas that each cost 1.7 million to purchase. The last area was a whopping 290 Million!!! So I'm in the 2005 era and I still cant afford the last, biggest area on the map!

Because of the way the maps are staged I cant afford the largest area until farther than 2005 which limits myself in being able to delve into all the cool console system research and manufacturing, and console cartridges making. I don't know if its intentional to make you choose either making games or making consoles but I feel either the last area you can buy should be less than 290 million or have a few more smaller stepping stone areas that are between 60-100 Million.

  • When you are going through the options to start designing a new game, there is the section where you find like how much you allocate to Game Focus, and in that section you will find a button labelled "Automatically Apply Known Optimal Settings" that button does Nothing!
    https://node2.projectplanet.cn/@steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2778196296
I am not sure if its a future feature not yet implemented or if it is I havent figured out how to use it. In that section with said button is sliders for Design Focus like Game Length, Depth, Beginner Friendliness, Innovation, Story, Character, Level, and Mission design which you need to have in the right mix in order to get a good review percentage. Good luck trying to remember what were the best last settings you used for a particular genre and having to look up each one on a wiki gets old real fast. So this button of "Automatically Apply Known Optimal Settings" needs to work, and I would tie it to some function of either Research or Marketing. Maybe like a focus group option to find out the best settings?

In conclusion:
So even with what I listed for what I dislike about the game, there is way more to like. The game is silly, it has a lot of character, lots of cool features you can either use or not use as how you play the game is pretty open ended. I would highly recommend getting
Mad Games Tycoon 2!

Devs:
If the developers add a campaign with full release, rework that terrible soundtrack, stage the building unlocks better on maps, Imaginary content past 2022, to say like 2099, and make the "Automatically Apply Known Optimal Settings" button to work or have some kind of function this game could easily be an 8/9 out of 10!!

Hope you found this review helpful! If you did, buy the game!
