The Verdun League: Organizing Competitive Mayhem since 2015

About the League

The Verdun League (VL) is a community-driven effort to provide a place for competitive gaming of the WW1 FPS Verdun. This eSports league is strictly non-professional but aims to provide more competitive challenges for the small Verdun community. We welcome any teams that are committed and have a large enough player base to field the required number of players in their chosen competition.

At the moment the VL only offers one competition, Frontlines 8v8. This may change in the future. But larger games, like 12v12, could only be played if there will be more clans with a suitable player base. For now, the small Verdun community cannot sustain many clans of that size. So for the foreseeable future 8v8 will be the only competitive game mode of the VL. It has proven to be a challenging game size that gives room to both the tactical abilities of the team as well as the individual skills of its players.

If you are a clan leader or team captain and want your team to participate in the league, please get in touch with the league management. In order to play in the 8v8 competition you need to reliably field 8 players each match for the duration of the season. That usually means that your team has to be larger than 8 players as you will need a sufficient number of substitutes for those times that your regular players cannot play. You are therefore required to have at least 12 players. You might need more. But of course, the best number depends on the commitment and particular circumstances of your team.

The Future of the Verdun League

More than five months have passed since I entrusted the management of the league to the competitive community. The provisional management elected by an assembly of competitive clans has failed to organize the transition to a new organisational structure, let alone a new season. Not even a follow-up meeting was held. The competitive community at large has not shown much interest in any competitive events and many clans turned mostly inactive. Other attempts to establish a alternative leagues have not materialized either. So it's safe to say that not much will happen if we let this continue.

However, decisions need to be made regarding the continued hosting of the VL website. I have therefore relieved all the league and event managers of their positions again. In the near future I will decide if and how the VL will continue to exist. To that end I have also started to discuss matters with Leo of Blackmill Games. I will make further announcements once I have a better idea where we are heading. But if the Verdun League will continue to exist, it is more than likely that it will be in a different form. Until then I hope you all will continue to play the game.

I am currently looking for a Verdun clan to join. I have played the game a respectable amount of time and am pretty expirenced. I do got a KD of 2.7 and won the best player medal 36x times during 107 rounds. I once was lvl 80 but my stats were somehow deleted. Now I am level 90. I can play pretty regulary if needed. I am party of the Germany Team for the Verdun EU tournament. English and German are the languages I can fluently communicate in. If you have interst just friend me

We have Discord. But it isn't used much at the moment. So far we have used it mainly for organisational purposes (for the VCT2016, for example). But we plan to do more with it after the summer when the 2nd season starts as we want to stream matches as well. Then our Discord channel should go hand-in-hand with our (to be established) Twitch channel.
