was finally able to play the game years later by updating my bios, tried everything in the book prior to this decision, however be advised that you must research your motherboard so as to not mess up your bios, it is risky but well worth it if youve tried everything.

Holy crap! After 6 months of on and off troubleshooting I fixed it! Through the means of repairing and re-registering the WMI. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/repairwmi.htm Best of luck to anyone who is still having trouble running the game. Guess I get to leave this group now.

well i decided to just give up and asked my refund so hopefuly i will get it this weekend so i can buy dungeon siege haha :D well was still fun waiting with you guy's respect if you are still waiting.

So after un/reinstalling the game for the 5th time, i managed to get it working by adjusting the WINDOWS firewall settings to allow anything involving Steam or P2. It seems like a given, and I was fairly certain i'd done that already...but whether it was that or a random update from Steam, it's working now. If it doesn't hold up...well, I guess I'll be back.
