Fortress Survival: Rebirth

Dear survivors,

A few years ago I was lucky enough to play the original Fortress Survival gamemode made by LouFang. This server quickly became one of the few favourited servers in my GMod browser. It was until after a short break from the game, I returned to see that my favourite server no longer existed. It vanished. I found this group and an announcement of its owner disappearing and with it the server.

Fortunately a moderator of the group -who at the time went by the name HeadHunter- was still around and we became friends on Steam. We talked about how the game mode worked, how he had made a variety of maps for the gamemode and how a possible reboot could be made possible. And so the idea was born to continue the Fortress Survival legacy.

Days, weeks and months were spent on recreating the Fortress Survival gamemode based on memory, a handful of screenshots, interviews with former players and a single video that existed on YouTube. This time I was going to do this properly.

And so the gamemode saw the light, albeit under a beta-tag. Players came and enjoyed the gamemode. Yet much work was left to be done. Much work that would take a lot of time. A lot of time I couldn't spend.

The servers would keep on rolling until GMod 13 was released, putting the gamemode and server in a broken state. I could not summon the time nor motivation to fix it and thus it slowly faded away. For this I apologize.

Today there is yet another glimpse of light, a shimmer of hope to see in action Fortress Survival. I have transferred all source files to Gamz who will continue the development of this gamemode together with a team he has self-assembled. I will try to reach out to HeadHunter and see if Gamz can be given rights to post announcements in this community and be enabled to take it further.

This is just a whim of the full story and I cannot express how much joy I've had in creating this gamemode. How I wish I could sit for weeks and develop, gather feedback and play with all of you.
