What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Noct is currently undergoing major development transitions while in an Alpha state. During this development period, core game mechanics are being re-designed in order to help advancements towards a more refined final release. Developer C3SK believes that Early Access will continue to help shape the game in a positive way by directly involving the community with development of Noct. Currently Noct Early Access contains roughly 30-45 minutes of repeatable game play content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Noct will be in Early Access through 2016.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

2016/Q2 Development Road Map

As of now, Noct is being redesigned to incorporate more "wasteland" style gameplay mechanics. While the core narrative/story is being removed and migrated into an exploration type quest system.

Q2 Major features being added:

SURVIVOR BUILT UNDERGROUND BUNKERS

Players will be able to construct their own underground bunker upon collecting the necessary tools and supplies in the game world. This bunker will serve as a primary stash location which players can stock game world supplies, specialized items, and open world quest components to further progression. Bunkers will become the core foundation for survivor game play, and can be expanded via specialty enhancements found in the game world.

Underground bunker doors can only be opened by the creator of the bunker, and function on a timer once opened. In multiplayer this will allow survivors to raid unlocked bunkers left unprotected by their owners. It should also be noted that bunkers are client bound and can transfer from survivor to survivor from that same client, the loss of a survivor will not result in the loss of your bunker.

END OF THE WORLD

Every play session begins and ends during an apocalypse event. As you journey through the Noct outside of the safety of your bunker, a doomsday timer counts down. Nightmarish creatures multiply exponentially and darkness closes in around you as what is left of the world comes to an end. Commit horrendous barbaric acts in the name of survivalism to keep you and your friends alive long enough to retreat back to your bunkers to enjoy the spoils.

Q3 Features to be announced during Q2 Development

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Noct is playable online/offline in an Alpha state, and is undergoing major developmental changes. Please see the most recent patch notes/announcements and Noct community forums for more advanced details.

Currently Noct Early Access contains roughly 30-45 minutes of repeatable game play content.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price of Noct will not rise or fall on any permanent basis after the Early Access development period ends.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Similar to our recent closed beta, players are asked to provide any and all feedback through the Steam forums, via Twitter @NoctGame, and email C3SK directly for more robust requests or explanations of issues.”

About This Game

Once our home and record of modern civilization, the Earth is a ruined wasteland engulfed in perpetual darkness. Older than any recorded texts, an ancient evil descended upon our world without warning, consuming the population and leaving only despair behind in its wake. The unfortunate survivors of this purge now struggle to overcome the horrific terrors of the Nocturnal.

Noct is a 2D top-down multiplayer survival horror game that blends arcade combat with RPG survival elements. You are a survivor of the apocalyptic purge that formed the desolate wasteland now known as Noct and view your experience in the world through a thermal image satellite system high above the Earth.

Scavenge and Survive: Players must scavenge weapons, rations, utility items, and other provisions from the wasteland to survive the harsh world and defend themselves from the evil in the dark.

Persistent Online World: The entire game world is persistent. Players may choose to connect to, or host their own world servers which they can adventure in. This allows players to interact with other survivors in Noct if they wish, or make their game experience strictly a solo affair.

Unspeakable Horrors: Battle the dozens of nightmares that stalk around in the night and leave their dead carcasses as a warning to others or flee into the wild and leave your fellow companions to satiate your pursuers.

Haunting Soundtrack: Slip on your headphones and dim the lights to let the haunting soundtrack from Nine Inch Nail's Robin Finck and composer Wordclock wash over you and ratchet up the tension.
