Layered Invisibility Exploit Guide
By [Jmelt] Kurisu
Valve has secretly modified the nature of the invisibility effect in Dota 2 with the latest patch. Before, invisibility was a binary function; you were either invisible or you were not. Wards, towers, and Dust nullified invisiblity, and that was that. Now, invisibily is defined by layers. This means that if you are under a circumstance where two different things are offering you invisibility, and one proxy is trying to expose you (ward, dust, etc), then you would still be invisible under the ward's effects because you are double invisible. This guide is to help you rethink your approach to invisibility in Dota 2 with the latest update.

Layered Invisibility Properties
Upon discovery of the exploit, I decided to test to see how many layers of invisibility a single Hero can acheive. The maximum amount of Layers of Invisibility discovered is 9:

-Any Hero can have up to Six Layers of Invisibility using a Shadow Blade for each item slot. Shadow Blades can now be activated individually as long as another is in use.
-Heroes that have natural Invisibility-based Abilities (Riki, Mirana, Oracle, Broodmother, etc) can have 7 Layers if you use the 6 Shadow Blades trick.
-A Riki under the influence of 6 Shadow Blades, Mirana's Ult, and Oracle's Ult is 9 Layers, meaning you'll need 9 Sentry Wards or Dust to spot Riki while under 9 Layers of Invisibility.

As you can see, only 9 Layers of Invisibility are allowed on a given Hero at a time, as the Layer count cannot go into decimals nor double digits. Studying this is crucial to success in redefining just how invisible something is in-game, and can change the nature of a team fight if read correctly.
Practical Uses/ Build Suggestions
Here are some examples of using Layered Invisibility to your advantage, as well as preparing against it:

Riki:

Obviously, Riki is the most directly affected by Layered Invisibility, as this can change his purchasing priorities immensely. Before, you'd be laughed out of town for purchasing Shadow Blade, but with Layered Invisibilty, SB is now a more-than-viable counter to wards and dust, as you can now be double invisible. However, Diffusal Blade is still a priority, so only buy Shadow Blade if you are positive that the enemy team is cracking down on revealing items. One or two Shadow Blades should be enough.

Sand King:

Any good Sand King spends the bulk of his time doing absolutely nothing, and that's why he is Gabe Newell's favorite Hero. Buying a Shadow Amulet in addition to your standard SK build is now viable, and could even convince your enemies that the SandStorm-Displacing visual bug still works.

Oracle:

If you are Ulti-ing a friendly Hero in a teamfight and the enemy team just popped Dust, you can safely retreat with Shadow Blade while your Axe or Sven is sacrified, but not forgotten, to the greater struggle.
Countering Layered Invisibility
Obviously not all is cherry and roses with this change. You'll need to prepare against enemies taking advantage of Layered Invisibility too.

Step 1: Being a dedicated Invis-Peeler

Since Invisiblity now works in layers, you'll have to have someone on the team who can bring the firepower needed to reveal those Shadow Blade Rikis. Since "Invis-Peeler" sounds like a terrible name, I'll just refer to this role as the Dust ♥♥♥♥♥. The Dust ♥♥♥♥♥ buys and deploys Dust constantly, and is a role best suited for a Hero who is generally not useful and/or has plenty of free item space for Dust.

Step 2: Being a filthy Dust ♥♥♥♥♥

So it's come to this. The enemy team is getting too good at evading your team's sight. Bounty Runes will help you earn the precious Dust welfare you need to gas the cancer that is Layered-Invis Riki/ Sand King. Stealing Farm/ Kills also helps, so maybe consider choosing a Hero that is excellent at doing that:

Zeus can also auto-peel all invis layers temporarily, but he's supposed to be useful in other playstyles, so let him get his Refresher and Scepter. Being a dedicated Dust ♥♥♥♥♥ is not the smartest choice for Zeus, but as something he does on the side makes sense.

Try other Heroes and see how being a Dust ♥♥♥♥♥ works for them. Experimentation is Key in Dota after all.
Conclusion
Layered Invisibility can be a game-changer. If you have any build suggestions and highlights related to the new Invisiblity system, send them my way and I'll add them to the Guide. Good luck out there!

There's a similar mechanic in wc3 dota, when you are under the effect of 2 invis abilities that have the same code (A1IN for ex.), you are invisible even when attacking and using spells.

Wow, this is great. From now on I will always put SB on my Riki builds! Thumbs up buddy.

Wow this is really helpful! I bought multipler shadow blades for added effect. Really OP. What will Volvo think of next?
