Description

Heartbreak V is the nineteenth level in the game Sayonara Wild Hearts, the fifth of five transition levels from one zone to the next. The Star card shows up in the form of a sailboat, and we use it to traverse the Ocean of Death!

Scores in SWH are primarily made up of points from collecting little hearts, big hearts, and square coins. Each item makes the next of that kind worth more - the first heart is worth 1, the second is worth 2, the third is worth 3, etc. Big hearts start at 25, coins start at 1000. In addition, there are "style points" that come from getting dangerously close to an obstacle (Risky!) and moving a certain distance continuously in one direction on the motorbike (Slide!), which are worth 50 each. The teleports in this level also increment by 100.

Getting as many hearts as possible in this level means traveling the opposite way around the whirlpools from the direction the hearts are moving, while in the boat, and then at the end, nudging left after the fourth teleport to collect two full rows of hearts. The most hearts possible is 285.

This level is tricky to do perfectly because the Riskies from the platforms are *very* particular, they only seem to happen in very specific places and on very specific beats of the music. And then at the end when you have to nudge left to get two rows of hearts, you have to get it *exactly* right in order to not move too soon (in which case you move before you teleport, and don't end up moving over to get the second row), too late (in which case you miss a few of the hearts from the start of the middle row), too far (in which case you miss some hearts from the right row), or not far enough (in which case you miss some hearts from the middle row).
