(SPOILERS) The definite way to enjoy the open-world.
By The 2008 Slasher
There is an ENORMOUS multitude of things to do in Red Dead Redemption 2's Open-World, but playing the story can take away from the truly free experience as you feel you have responsibilities. This is a guide for those who have already beaten the game, and want to know the perfect place to stop the story and truly enjoy the life of Arthur Morgan.

[THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND]
This is NOT recommended for new players.

This goes out to everyone who's already fully enjoyed the game's story once, twice, or even thrice.
My thoughts on how you can go around causing whatever level of mayhem to your heart's content, should only be optional and for those seeking a perfect point in the story. Where every one of your fellow gang members is at their happiest moments, and where surely nothing goes wrong later.

So if hunting, killing, and enjoying the fine moments with your gang is all you could ask for,
THIS is the guide for you- my similar-minded individual.
[THE STOPPING POINT]
Where to Halt:
  • Complete Chapter One (Colter)
  • Go through the majority of Chapter 2's missions at your own pace
  • Do Strauss' Debt missions, as these will be necessary if you want to unlock the Ledger
  • Don't bother freeing Micah from jail. He's a jackass not worth saving, and here's why:
The reward Micah will bestow you for freeing him is a secondary holster for two handguns. This is not the only way to unlock two holsters, as you can purchase holsters from the Trapper by doing challenges. However, you cannot get Arthur's secondary holster or the Upgraded secondary one.
It shouldn't be that much of a deal though.
  • Continue Chapter 2's missions until you reach the mission called "The Sheep and the Goats"
  • John will be at Valentine, taking his much needed break from Abigail after healing up
  • The only story missions left for you to complete should be for Micah and John
  • Ignore both, and everyone is happy
[PROS]
  • You have everything necessary for exploration
  • The Gang is at the most peaceful it can be
  • No Micah
  • No heated arguments between Abigail and John
  • Horseshoe Overlook is naturally a breathtaking (and personally my favorite) camp site
  • No existential dread or worrying disease
  • Camp is blissfully ignorant and safe for as long as possible
[CONS]
  • Restriction to a single point in the story can get old over time
  • No normal or upgraded secondary holster
  • Restricted to all the weapons and stranger activities in Chapter 2
  • No character development (very minor)
  • No Clemens Point Camp (although not my favorite, I do enjoy the fishing aspect)
  • No Cain :(
  • No saucy Sadie
[DISCLAIMER]
Your relationship with this information is tailored to how you perceive it, as it is only my opinion.
Despite that, I think I'm right and I don't want to believe otherwise.
Do with this guide as you will, and you will find this to be the most peaceful Arthur's life can be.

either this or chapter 3, before the trelawny mission where you rob a stage are the happiest time of the camp

I've played this game through three times so far, and I am currently on my fourth playthrough. I don't know why I keep coming back. Maybe it's because I'm longing for something in particular which the game gives me which I cannot place. However, I think this guide might be the key to it. So thank you so much for this guide, and keep it up! :47_thumb_up:

see, the way I can usually tell a game is really, truly great is both the PASSION and the LONGEVITY of fan interaction.

how old's the game in 2022? four years old? and there is still nothing - in my opinion - that even broaches CLOSE to getting onto the same field [hah] as RDR2 in terms of the world. nothing even remotely similar (besides other Rockstar products). that one that comes closest is probably Witcher 3, which is *extreme high praise* for Witcher 3, especially since it came out first.

and yeah. I get it. RDR2 is like two games, really. you've got the linear, shooting gallery, high-drama missions, which are almost exclusively very very good. obviously very QUALITY. there's no argument for me.

and then the OTHER game is the most amazing, jaw-droppingly deep, persuasive, adaptive, moving, funny, scary, *massive* open experience there is in all of video gaming.

This game is beautiful. After enjoying the story four times now, I can agree with your points. Although the lack of weaponry is a bummer, it certainly is a blissful point in the story. And screw Micah.
