Intro

Dawn of Man supports user translations through the steam workshop, this guide explains how to do it.
Translating the game
  • Download the current English strings from here: http://madrugaworks.com/dawnofman/files/strings.zip

  • Rename the files replacing "en" by your language 2 letter ISO code, for example for Russian this would be "ru_main.xml", "ru_tutorial.xml", "ru_help.xml" (if your language doesn't have an ISO code, just use any 2 letters).

  • Translate the files, note that the "language_name" string in "en_main.xml" is what your language is going to be called in the settings screen

  • Make sure you save the xmls as UTF8

  • Put the files in "My Documents/DawnOfMan/Strings"

  • Now the new language should appear in the settings menu
Uploading to the Steam Workshop
Once you've tested the translation on your machine, you can upload it to the workshop for other people to use, by using the Workshop Uploader, see instructions here:

Are those translate files still up to date? Thank you!

Hi. I'm working on the Slovenian translation. I have the xml files in the Documents/DawnOfMan/String folder, but the game doesn't give me the Slovenian option, only English, Spanish, French and German. Then it just rotates back to English.

When I downloaded the xml files, the file names looked like this: 'en_main.lng.xml'. I deleted the '.lng' part from them, before I did this I was getting a xml formatting error.

Any advice?

Hi. I'm a chinese translator, i have found some strings not included in strings.zip yet, i mean "Armor" and things related to this tech and the other two following, "cheesemaker" not contained also. Could you update the strings.zip soon?

Thats good.
But why do you place al string in one file? I have an old localication (before Cheese update) and try to compare - and can't.
Plese, give before-cheese eng string. I find new entities and translate them,
can change to any font? and change font size?

Sweet. I didn't realise it was this easy. I might try an Esperanto translation!

Can someone explain how to edit the ingame text and map description text? First time uploading a mod and opened workshop_item.vdf file and not exactly sure how to edit the files there so it uploads properly to Steam. Thanks
