1,007 Hours played
Baldur's Gate 3 is more than just a game - it's an experience that will happily consume hundreds of hours of your life. The characters breathe with such life that you’re not just playing a game, you’re living it.

BG3 is a journey that pulls you in and refuses to let go. I’ve spent countless hours in this game, and each moment has been pure magic. I’ve lost track of time, diving deep into the world and its myriad of possibilities. The character creation options are so deep that you’ll spend hours just deciding who you want to be this time. The build variety is even more insane - multiclassing options guaranteeing each playthrough is distinct and uniquely tailored.

I’ve lost track of the hours I’ve spent in Faerûn, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

See you in Faerûn, probably still deciding on my next build ^^

After diving deep into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and craving more witcher adventures, I decided to explore the origins of this captivating series. I started with The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, the game that began it all. Playing through this and then diving into The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, I couldn't resist replaying TW3 with a save transfer, which made my second playthrough even richer and more immersive.

For those who, like me, have just finished TW3 and discovered the prequels, you might be wondering if playing them is necessary to understand the story. The short answer is no. CDPR designed TW3 so that you don’t need to play the previous games to understand and enjoy its plot. However, if you want to enhance your experience and fully immerse yourself in the rich lore of this universe, it’s absolutely worthwhile to start with the TW1 and proceed through the sequels with a save transfer. Trust me, after experiencing the full journey, you will reconsider your final choice of partner in TW3, and Yennefer will not be your top pick anymore.

Atmosphere

First things first – this world feels alive! You can practically smell the ale in the taverns and feel the weight of each character's motivations, thanks to the incredible voice acting and deep stories every character has. Plus, the locations are stunning, each with its own haunting music. It's like stepping into a vivid realm where every detail of its dark fantasy atmosphere enchants the senses.

Gameplay

Overall, this is the game's Achilles' heel. It feels outdated by today’s standards. Movement can be a bit clunky at times, and the combat might seem intimidating initially. Unlike some games where you can simply mash buttons, timing is crucial here. Geralt can switch between different fighting styles (strong, fast, and group styles), but unleashing their full potential demands precise clicks at the right moment, which can be chained together for enhanced attacks. However, executing these attacks requires precise timing with mouse clicks – clicking too quickly or slowly can result in failed attempts. Overall, the combat system feels clunky and less responsive compared to newer titles.

Graphics

The graphics won't be winning any awards here. While the characters and environments are decent, they're not cutting-edge by any means. In comparison to TW2, they show their age a lot more. However, what stands out is the world itself, which remains stunning. Every detail, from the cobblestone streets to the flickering torches, vividly tells a story.

Sound

It’s addictive! When you’re in a tavern laughter mingles with lively chatter, punctuated by the rhythmic clinking of tankards. Stepping through the city streets, you absorb snippets of different characters' lives. Alongside the bustling markets that fill the air with vibrant energy, these fleeting phrases enrich the atmosphere, making the experience utterly immersive and the world feel alive.

Story

Now, here’s the thrilling part – the story! It’s undoubtedly the standout feature of this game. It tackles mature themes, challenging you to navigate between difficult choices or opt for indecision, mirroring Geralt's own philosophy: "If I’m to choose between one evil and another… I’d rather not choose at all." The non-linear gameplay and myriad choices keep you constantly engaged. Every decision shapes the narrative and influences its outcome. And let’s not forget the characters! They are incredibly well-developed, each one so compelling you might find yourself wanting to invite them over for a wine night (which is actually an option in one of the missions).

Pros:

1. Rich Story
2. Complex Characters
3. Overall Atmosphere
4. Sound
5. Triss Merigold

Cons:

1. Outdated Graphics and Gameplay Mechanics
2. Clunky Interface

Summa summarum, The Witcher stands as a mature, complex masterpiece awaiting a remake. It offers gripping storylines, an immersive atmosphere, and characters I wish were real. That's why The Witcher became my absolute favorite.

In a cauldron bubbling, with eyeballs afloat,
A witch makes her potion on an old, creaky boat.
Ghosts waltz through the moonlight, all silly and spry,
While goblins in costumes steal candy—oh my!

With cackles of laughter and shrieks full of glee,
We dance under shadows, wild, bold, and free.
Be yourself—a specter in disguise,
Where courage blooms and freedom flies.
