I knew nothing about Everything when I got it, and what the heck! It’s a delight. I could just sit for hours, being a thing, singing as a thing, dancing as a thing. The game is surreal thought poetry. Waaay over the quirkiness limit I set for games to be genuinely intrigued. I meditate a lot (more or less 3 hours per week) and I found Everything a form of interactive meditation. Perhaps even elevated meditation; spending my me-time contemplating about life and chuckling softly to all kinds of subtle jokes and questions in my head, such as what dirt pieces have on their shoulders, really rejuvenated me. So, wow, Thank You. mr. David OReilly, for a place to escape to.

Before going on a binge of praise, I’d like to write about Perspective. This is one of the things Everything does very well. You see, when I was playing Everything, at first I thought “ewwwww I’m a used gum”, but then I was a used syringe and I thought: “Okay it’s kinda nice being a used gum again.” Easy gratitude feels, yep? Another example is whales. I’ve had an irrational fear of whales for a long time, and I’ve fought the fear with more or less success, but for me it was absolutely relieving to realise that I’m not afraid of whales as a clam because I know they are not gonna consider me as anything. Also orcas are so little in the scope of Everything so they become less scary, so fear is not only about primal instinct but about perspective! This is revealing, helpful and educational. +1

If that didn’t sound mushroomy enough, I’ll tell you my 4 year old godson loves this game as well, he is always asking when will we play the “thing game” … and then we are just having a wonderful time together, gasping at our universe. It has been a long time since I laughed at a video game this hard, and more importantly, every time I opened Everything, this happened AGAIN, so it was not just the shock effect of questionable physics decisions, but genuinely good writing, design and sense of drama. Bafflingly I'm actually laughing more than my godson. To him random things like the things in Everything are normal. To him it makes total sense that the suns are singing to each other and creating more of the universe… To be honest I’m a bit worried what he will tell his physics teacher when he is old enough… :D…

There is a little setback to playing this game with kids; I’m having a hard time translating stuff to my godson (as English is not our native language) as we go. Usually I can translate a video game to him right away but now I’m struggling, like, how to explain EVERYTHING... And more often than not, I just end up saying, “okay, that pizza is like, life is cool, let’s talk to this turd” but really he knows it's about so much more. And we love it to bits! :)

The only minus I could come up with for this game was that I’m not fast enough to write down all the legendary discussion between everythings and contemplate about it at the same time. Here’s a sample of what I managed though:

“By making yourself bigger you make yourself smaller.”

“It’s okay to be everything.“

“Every someone is you.”

“Imitation is suicide.”

“I spend about 2% of my life living and gamble the rest.”

“The world is play.”

“The principle of relativity is that there's no self without the other.”
