Early Access Review
Probably my best buy in a long time, the Second game on Steam i cared to get all achievements for and i got like 180 games on steam alone (I usually don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about achievements, I prefer having fun, instead of being told what to do in my free time, unless i get really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bored), bought it for the 3 bucks and got more than 20 hours of fun per buck out of it already and it hasn't even left early Access yet. I hope the content keeps coming like it did so far and we get to enjoy this gem for a long ass time. While i'm happy and thankful for it being so cheap, i have to say that from my point of view the creator is horribly underselling his work at this price! I'd pay at least 10 bucks and would still get more fun hours per buck than from most current games produced by "Eat Ass", or "Ubishi t".

Pretty good, considering its a bit older by now.
Story is amazing and there are like 16 or so different endings, depending on your choices throughout the game.
Just make sure to not have more than like 10 game saves or it will start crashing constantly, which can be quite annoying. Playing in English also seems to help it crash less often. Kinda pathetic those problems never got fixed!

The Game is pretty good, way better then Machine for Pigs was!

Gameplay wise it reminds me more of TDD than MFP, another pretty good mix of mechanics and area designs making the game pretty scary (Original Mode). Haven't played ♥♥♥♥♥ mode or Game Journalist Mode (Whatever you want to call it), so i can't say a lot about that.

The Story was pretty damn good i think.
However, i have to say i am extremely disappointed in the choice of Endings this game is offering you, for the following reasons (SPOILERS AHEAD):
1. Tasi isn't a bad Person and suffered a lot by loosing her firstborn to an illness
2. Tasi didn't really do something wrong, which would warant this Collection of bad endings (None of them are really good endings in my opinion: 1. Kill the empress and die with your child for "the greater good" (WHO THE ♥♥♥♥ CARES, IF THERE'S NO REDEMTION FOR TASI IN THAT?!?!) 2. flee with your child just for it to most likely die to either illness or WW2 in a few Years considering the Year the game plays in or 3. Become a Ghoul forced to serve the empress while the empress keeps the child --> 4. secret ending also boils down to this pretty much)
3. The Endings really don't feel satisfying for all the time you've spent. I went for the Provider Ending, because i feel that's what Salim would've probably chosen for you as well, considering the letter you found at his dead body and also considering the amount of time you spend trying to get back home with your unborn kid. At least Tasi may be able to live a more or less happy life with Amari for a few years like this.
4. I'm sitting here after finishing the game and it just doesn't feel like it should after you finished a game. I'm really disappointed there's not even 1 actually good ending (like you get home with Amari and she won't die in a few years, or you kill the empress and get spared by the shadow). So i basically payed money to be bummed out now???? What is this ♥♥♥♥??? Same problem i had with MFP, where the Ending is just ♥♥♥♥ (Didn't expect a lot from MFP though, considering the pretty meh reviews).... At least give us an Option to get at least 1 actually good ending if there are multiple endings, otherwise you might as well just don't include multiple endings because it just doesn't really matter which one you go for then....

It's ok...

Perfectly playable till Chapter 9 or 10, then it turns into some over the top ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for the remaining few chapters... Could definitely have been better for the last few chapters imho.

The Story is ok...

The Gameplay is oversimplified in comparison to The Dark Descent: Insanity Mechanic has been removed, No Tinderboxes, No Oil for the Lamp, no Laudanum. Feels like a big step back from the first one sadly...

The Game as is, is still worth a play, but definitely not a masterpiece... and definitely not what you would expect from an Amnesia game.

The Story is quite interesting, and i think it is really nice how you're fed more and more snippets of it through the diary entries and some other notes which can be found throughout the game if you're brave enough to explore Castle Brennenburg (Unfortunately i haven't found all of them so far, so some of them seem to be quite well hidden i guess, or i just wasn't careful enough when checking for notes in some places --> probably in the early areas).

The Puzzles are designed quite well in my opinion.

The Areas are well designed and i really recommend the Amnesia the Dark Descent remastered mod, as it makes this by now pretty old game look way better, and it makes it so that on max. Sanity Level you can't see the Red Glow around the enemies (Which makes it harder to spot the enemies in dark areas, which makes for some fun additional jumpscares).

The Monsters themselves aren't that scary lookswise imho (the brutes are way scarier than the grunts though), however they appear mostly when you don't expect them (I think the spawns are random) and they kill you quite fast if they catch you, which is scary in itself, considering you can only hide / run from them but not fight them. The fact that Laudanum (Healing Potion) is quite rare also makes these encounters quite a bit more scary.

I found the Sanity Mechanic to be a little annoying in the beginning as i wasn't really sure how to handle it properly, however you learn to manage your Sanity over time, or rather you have to learn to deal with it if you want to beat the game and it adds quite a bit to making the whole game more scary overall. Staying in the darkness, witnessing disturbing events or staring at enemies will drain your sanity. The lower sanity goes, the more disturbing, surreal and dangerous the environment seemingly becomes, and enemies will eventually see you, even in the dark if your sanity drops too low. There are also some ways to regain sanity, like progressing to a new area, solving puzzles, standing in lit areas for a while. You therefore have to carefully think about which torches, Lanterns and Candles you want to light along your way, to provide a spot to regain some sanity while still retaining options to hide from potential Enemies as well as when to use your lantern and when not to, so you have enough Oil / Tinderboxes to proceed through the game. So make sure you pick up oil bottles and tinderboxes along your way, as they become more and more important as the game goes on. And don't forget to turn off your lantern in lit areas to conserve your Oil reserves.

After finishing the game i have to say, that while a little annoying in the beginning, This Combination of Mechanics adds a lot to the game being scary as ♥♥♥♥! As you are constanly managing your resources while trying to find a way forward without getting yourself killed.

Just ended my first Playthrough and i gotta say i'm blown away. Amazing Game! Had me scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ many Times! The Whole Game feeds you with an Extreme Sense of Dread and Tension.
I wasn't sure what to expect after some people called it a "walking simulator" (i can kinda see where they are coming from), but the game is so much more than just that!
Definitely Recommend this game to everyone willing to read and explore to understand the story!
