Its a decent minimalistic RTS that has some depth but not a lot of complexity, so its easy enough to pick up and learn the ropes. I'm not sure if anything is different from the Steam Next Fest demo, but I've not gotten too deep into the content yet. Thus far its not too easy or too hard.

Its worth it to pick up and play!

Early Access-recension
EDIT: Aug 1st, 2024.

Recent changes to the game have made it no longer enjoyable for me to play. I haven't touched the game since middle of May 2024, and almost every update without fail has changed things and made it less enjoyable to play.

When I first played the game over a year ago, it had great progression, interesting spellcasting, and it felt good to invest hours into the game. Now the progression is almost as stingy as Vanilla World of Warcraft, spellcasting is terrible and unrewarding and it just feels like a massive and tedious grind now to play. And as I was a tester for so long, I know the developer never tests their own game without cheats on, so they don't understand how bad it has gotten. I tried to test without cheats, so that I could give an authentic representation of how the game played, when giving testing reports. But as time has gone on, they've listened less and less to me on the gameplay getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and wants to develop the game as they wish. I think they should develop it as they wish, but the game I was looking to play, the game I played over a year ago, no longer exists and so if I want a cool RPG style game, with magic, I'll just have to mod Minecraft again, as you can't modify anything in Aiyana and Aiyana lacks a creative mode.

Maybe in a year I'll give the game another go and see how its developed, but its a hard pass for me now.

I still recommend you take a look at it, as it has potential to be good, but I've lost faith that the developer will be able to make it good.

The original review is below:

I've been one of the main testers of the game, getting it ready for Early Access launch, hence my hours being quite high. The game has come a long way since August 2023, when I started testing the full build, and it is quite stable now with all the big bugs squashed.

Content wise for a new player, you'll be looking at perhaps 20-30 hours. I've optimized my playstyle so I can get the content done in 10ish hours. Can keep playing if you want of course.

In terms of what is different from what you might expect with a regular Minecraft game, I'll try to focus on the 10 biggest differences (there is a ton of smaller differences, but I don't think you want to read a wall of text):

1. Has skill development, making your activities slightly better over time. Its more of an icing on the cake, than the cake itself.

2. Has 22 spells, mostly utility focused right now. Some combat spells.

3. Has perks that you can spend on different perk trees to enhance your preferred playstyle. Earn them by completing achievements set within the game, with some of those achievements being Steam Achievements as well.

4. Has a vibrantly unique night time. Its where the Avatar inspiration is found. Most things glow and things are quite pretty, though still dangerous at night.

5. Has a protection beacon that lets you make a place your home beacon and prevents enemies from spawning within the field of protection. Even reaches far above and far underground.

6. Has farming with 10 crops. Later on you gain access to composts and fertilizers, which can further enhance your grown crops.

7. Has meal cooking making basic meals at start, and can find further recipes in chests and off enemies to make superior meals that usually grant a buff.

8. You can gain one meal buff, one sleeping buff (from better beds), up to 3 buffs from alchemy (perk dependent) and potentially even 3 more powerful buffs (also from alchemy; see ingame perks for more details).

9. Many creature drops and objects can be found to create alchemical potions. You can get some very powerful buffs from these potions, that will greatly enhance your playstyle. Just be warned that death cancels out all your buffs.... so watch your step, as falling deaths are the most common way for me to die.

10. Has a very peaceful soundtrack, great ambience, and reasonably decent sound effects, allowing you to relax and just enjoy the game, when you know you don't have a wolf chasing you of course!

=====

Its come a long way, and has a long way to go, but its definitely worth checking out now. If you want to try the game out first, the demo allows for 1 hour of time, but doesn't have saving, so definitely if you are on the fence try out the demo first and then buy the game if you like what you see!

Decent title.

Quite a few of the weapons are really subpar, mostly due to the number of foes thrown at you. Many weapons are pretty useless until upgraded to max level (8), like Plasma Torch or Space Mines. Some of the achievements are torturous to achieve, like 500,000 kills over all your games. Many of the unit choices are poorly designed. Played as Sickle for 80% of the game, and then when I unlocked Suzy, played that unit for the last 20% of the game.

However, with all that said, its one of the better Survivor likes out there. Controls well, pretty, and really makes you feel like a bad-@ss when you find a really good build. I might return to this one, if it gets more updates, but right now, all I have to do is grind out like 90,000 something kills, and then I'll hit all the achievements.

A fairly relaxing game, once you get past Sector 1. Currently it is the hardest sector of the game, but once you get to Sector 2, unlock the Sector 2 ship, it gradually gets easier, until you reach Sector 5 and feel like an unstoppable force of destruction.

I'd say I spent roughly 2 hrs to beat Sector 1. The first big hurdle is getting your first new ship, the Frigate, which will massively improve your ability to play, so prioritize getting it, to make the game experience better.

Its a slow start, but it finishes quite well. I'm looking forward to how the game develops and improves over time.

A heartily recommend this game!

A very relaxing game, similar in tone to Motherload from Xgen Studios back in the day, without the stress of hull damage or running out of fuel.

Has a rocking soundtrack, to help with the pacing, and has a few innovative features that Motherload didn't have, such as:

-> Cooperative play.
-> Mines that provide passive income.
-> Treasure chests that are hunted for with treasure maps.
-> Upgradeable mechs and several different types of mechs.
-> A simplistic quest system to provide early game money and encourage you to explore the game's features.

Give it a shot, you'll not regret it.

I heartily recommend the game. It is an overall improvement over the demo in a lot of ways, and thus far its looking pretty good for its early access release. Thus far the biggest changes over the demo are a new cloning system for save/loading, 4 new enemy types that provide a different form of challenge, and a lot of rebalancing for weapon alt fires.

The level in the demo, is still the first level of the game, but it now has a tutorial level that precedes it as well as a cutscene explaining how we got here and why we are here. The story logs add a fair bit of ambience and feels like exploration got improved on from the demo too.

Things that might turn off some players however, are:
-> No FOV slider, mouse sensitivity, or inverted camera controls yet, but it is on their to-do list.
-> Need to buy a clone to exit the game, otherwise you have to restart the map from scratch.
-> One music track that loops endlessly with little variety (same one from the demo).

However, even without those things it still plays very smoothly and is quite enjoyable.

Please ignore the playtime on the review. I've been in the closed beta test since September, so I have roughly ~44 hours in the closed playtest and as the last build I tested was the launch build, I haven't played it enough yet. Anyway, I'm that "reviewer" from Starcom Nexus.

Short Version = It is a far improved game over Nexus, and its worth picking up in its early state.

=====

Long Version = Like Deckard Cain used to say, stay a while and listen...

Things the game has improved over issues raised in my Nexus Review:
-> All core anomalies, linked to achievements appear achievable in a single run now.
-> All of the research topics work as advertised (as far as I can tell).
-> All purchaseable objects are now in the trade window, so you always can acquire them all, regardless of gain order.
-> No missions involving getting parts to assemble from destroying ships, like the communicator quest in Nexus.
-> There isn't any research that is considered mandatory anymore. So no, having to research warp hoppers at the endgame or no need to research a weapon to destroy the phage.
-> Shipbuilding is vastly improved and you can make a lot more varied looking ships. There is still room for improvement here, but it is way beyond better than the Nexus method.

Other issues raised in the Nexus review:
-> The post-launch support didn't happen because the features were too difficult to implement, and so Kevin rewrote the entire game from scratch, and made it easier to implement such features. Things that were impossible to do in Nexus, appear quite doable to do in this one. Do note that some features from Nexus aren't present yet as a result; ie Flak Cannons, Axial Ultraguns, and Drones.
-> Lore is fairly light at the moment, but what there is, is engaging and interesting and makes cognitive sense.

New improvements in this one:
-> You can enable (or its enabled by default) a directional indicator, so that you can move and dogfight now with enemies. Very useful, when your ship is on fire.
-> Fire effects on your ship, when damaged. Bit overdone at the moment though, but it is very pretty.
-> The UI for tracking quests is vastly improved, over Nexus.
-> You can now place very descriptive notes on the star map and easily remove them.
-> The trade UI with aliens is vastly improved, over Nexus.
-> Graphics are amazing and kept a solid 60 FPS at all times. I often had dips in Nexus.
-> Sound design is excellent and there is a variety of nice musical tracks.
-> You can now set a destination and travel automatically to there. Less tedious flying in the big dark.
-> Crew is far more valuable now and can grant bonuses to ship-to-ship combat too.
-> Map is more randomized now, so things aren't always in the same spot. So it keeps a linear game quite a bit fresh. We might see fully procedural gameplay later on too.
-> The new universe feels fresh and believable. More so than the one in Nexus.

Overall, its worth your time to buy it and play it. The current build Betelgeuse has about 6-8 hours of content, so give it a go.

A very good point and click adventure. I don't normally do PnC games though, so I might be a bad one to pay attention to. I overall really liked it, but there are certain gripes I had:

1. If you miss a single, obtuse clue, you can get easily stuck. I had to seek out help from the forums a lot.

2. There was a lot of obtuse puzzles that I just couldn't figure out. Even ones where I got hints from the forums, until they had to spoil the answer for me... THEN it made sense. But... I'd never have figured it out on my own. I do like logic puzzles, riddles, and lateral thinking questions, but this game totally stumped me a lot of the time.

3. As I've not done PnC games before I didn't know about holding space bar to highlight interactables in the environment. Also didn't know you could combine objects in the inventory.

4. I didn't like that I didn't get to see the big baddie at the end.

5. There is so many unanswered questions that I have concerning the story.

Otherwise, the game is great and I thoroughly enjoyed 90% of it.

I'd say that with the current content, you should be able to get 5-6 hours of enjoyable gameplay out of it. Currently it feels like a diamond in the rough; needs a lot of polish but they appear committed to post release support to get the game there. First patch is out in 2 days and they have major plans for extending content and enjoyment post release.

I originally played the steam next fest demo, and was hooked. The final release is even better, so give this game a shot. It is quite relaxing and there is strategic and challenging aspects to gameplay. It fills a niche I didn't even know I had wanted to be filled.

Early Access-recension
So I first came across this game in the Steam Next Fest. It was one of the demos that I was really impressed by (I played I think 25 steam demos and only really liked about 6 of them; these were for reference = Replikator, Trigon:Space Story, Farlanders, Giants Uprising, Metal Mind, and Terraformers). It really sold me on its gameplay even with only the first boss (of 4) available to play. I played probably way more of it than I should, replaying that boss fight and the levels up to it like 15 times or so. Its addicting and really fun.

Been waiting patiently for about two months for the Early Access build, and was not disappointed. The full game, is even better than the short demo. The three new boss fights are quite interesting and requires quite the different strategy to defeat them than the first boss was. A lot of new things came for the full build, such as improved weaker weapons, a map terminal (to reveal the entire map), and some great new musical tracks to listen to.

Gameplay is fast paced, but not chaotic, like Synthetik. Why do I bring up Synthetik? Because lots of people will draw similarities between the two. Things that this one does differently from Synthetik are:
-> No reloading. So you can focus on dodging enemy shots and just shooting back.
-> If you die, it is because you were too aggressive. Deaths are always fair in Replikator.
-> An actual story with optional lore pickups.
-> Varied enemies that require different tactics to take on.
-> Melee attacks and with upgrades can be quite powerful and useful for saving ammo.
-> Smashing objects to find ammo and health.
-> Secret areas; look for cracked walls and smash with melee.
-> Dashing is faster and has a quicker cooldown, so that you can use it more often... and you should.
-> Find blueprints for unlocking new weapons for this run and future runs.
-> Acquire pieces of a super weapon, and each one increases your spending money available at the start of a run.

It really is a fun game and you should really pick it up and play it. I didn't like Synthetik, but this game I really loved. I don't generally do positive reviews (if you check my profile), so I just want to point out how great this game is to make me want to give it a positive review.

Are there still nitpicks and things to improve in Early Access? Yes, but the overall gameplay loop and progression system is in a good place.
