On the plus side: this is supposed to be one of the best RPGs of all time.

On the negative side:

On the first day, I installed the game with DSfix but simply had it crashing on startup. Several hours of googling later I discovered that I have to move the "force feedback gain" slider on my pad settings to zero.

On the second day, I was able to make a character and watch the five-minute non-skippable intro movie only to have the game crash afterwards. There was a lot of solutions on the net, but each required me to start over. Eventually I learned the intro movie by heart and found the trick to make it not crash - AA off.

So now I'm on a third day, and I have the game running except half of my pad buttons are swapped. When the game tells me to press B I have to press A, where it tells me to press A I need to press Y, and I lost track of all that. This is with a pad that otherwise correctly mimicks 360 pad, and x360ce can't help me as it believes the mapping is already correct.

I will keep trying I guess, but this PC port is an insult to us all.

[edit] 4th day. It turns out x360ce can help me if I know what options to add to its .ini. I now have most buttons correct, except shield guard (doesn't work) and every time I move camera right it triggers some kind of shield swing. Still, I might be able to get it to work! Although even if I do, I have no way of knowing if my controls are correct.

To be fair, Steam did say this games needs a 360 controller. What I have is identical to a 360 controller in all games (until this one) but technically is not what they recommend.
