If you already have Civ 4, and never want to play Civ in Linux, well... don't bother. This game has been dumbed down a bit from previous versions. It's still fun, to some extent, As much as I'd love to upvote this game because of Linux support... well I have to say no on this one.

It's pretty, for sure, but doesn't offer anything new over previous versions--in fact, it offers even less. Sheesh, Civ III had live actors for advisors, which was amusing. Every versions since has lost a bit of it's soul. This version is no exception.

Of course, this isn't surprising considering this game was developed with a whole new staff-- with none of the origional directors or designers involved.

Previously I had given this game a negative review when I played during early access.., but now, after many patches, I can recommend this game. Singe player games are now hosted locally, and perform very well. Unlike other games in this series, orders can be given over an area. It's possible to order one construction bot to place metal extractors over an entire planet by merely clicking and dragging the mouse. This means less micro-management.

This game is fun, faster paced than previous games in this series, and, best of all, works perfectly in Linux.

In order to get special items which will give you an edge in combat, you must pay real money for them. Community is pretty bad too--unless you like playing with a bunch of prepubescent children that just learned how to type swear words, go for it.

Works great on Linux though. That's about the only good thing I have to say about it.

After a year of making a bug report, there have been no updates or comments from the developer. This game is no longer maintained. Don't expect it to work in future versions of Mac OSX, or Windows (Windows 10 is supposed to be the "last" windows version, according to Microsoft, after which they will focus on maintaining the system only).

If you're buying this game because it supports Linux, don't. The audio/video codec used here is seriously bugged. The video/audio will play for a short while, pause, then play again--and I'm running this on an 4.0 Ghz 8-core system with 32G of RAM. If you're in a quest, the audio playback is based on a timer, so you'll only hear half of what the other characters were trying to say, so the game is essentially unplayable.

If it weren't for this playback bug, it probably would be a good game. It's been over a year since I reported this bug. Since then I've built a new system with all new hardware, and upgraded my OS to 14.04. The bug still exists for me-- you can expect it to also exist for you. You can also expect new bugs and compatibility issues to go unfixed that can surface with the release of new operating systems and video drivers.

I got this game for free when I bought Wasteland 2, which is a great game, and runs perfectly on Linux (in fact, it runs better in Linux than it does in Windows for me on my system).

If this was an early access game, then yes, I'd say go for it... but it isn't. This game seems unfinished. It's fun, cheap, but it leaves you expecting something more. The research "tree", for instance, is very small and quickly completed (no teirs, just a few boxes to click on the screen). The settings menu lacks any controls for sound volume. Instead, it lists a series of screen resolutions which happened to be missing my 1920x1050 screen size. The game also lacks any real documentaiton on how to play after you get your first resident. There are also parts that have no purpose, mainly the stairwell.

It could be a fun game, but it needs a little work. It feels very much like an early access game, but it isn't being sold as such.

I played this game since the Alpha stages.. A few releases before 1.0, a new bug was introduced that DF-9 used 100% of a cpu core, even when the game was idle. Something was changed that caused this, I filed a bug report, and it's still not fixed.

This game is incomplete, has a buggy game core that no mod will fix, and DF has dropped all support for it. Don't buy this game.

The game starts out fun, sure, but it drags on. There's lots of grinding, and once when you get out into Nullsec or join a corp, the game becomes more like work and far less fun. The game is also setup to reward those players that have been around the longest. What ships you can fly and weapons/tools you can use is based on your skill level-- which slowly creeps up at a steady pace if you're in game or not. If you're new to the game, you'll stand no chance against someone who has been logged out for 5 years and only pops in once in awhile to train skills.

If you want a space game without the MMO BS, look to X3, or even the Eleite based games like OOlite. You'll have more fun, and more time.

Combat controlls are awkward, at least when using a mouse.

An attack or block using the mouse involved clicking, them moving the mouse in a direction. This has the effect of triggering an attack or defence in that direction, as well as moving the camera agnle and character position, which can throw your position off. Not very well thought out.

I do not recommend you buy this game.

(It is difficult to get the required 5 minutes of play time to post a review when a game doesn't launch)

This developer failed to test their in Steam under all platforms they claim to support. Had they done so, they would have known the game segfaults and crashes before releasing it. This has been a known issue since August 2013, and yet they still claim to support Linux.

After contacting support for the game, the only reply I got an automated message stating that they had recieved my email. Steam was nice enough to refund my purchase to my Steam Wallet, even though this, according to their EULA, they don't do. But, if you're a game developer, and don't respond to customer support questionts, then you really have no business selling games to begin with.

Pass this on up. It *had* promise, but it failed in the end. Lack of updates, buggy AI, and the fact mobs don't respawn make this game pretty pathetic. If anything, it might as well be a ant farm for your desktop, and is moderatly less fun than SimCity.

Only plus is that it works on Linux. There are FAR better Linux games for on steam these days, some are even free (TF2, Minecraft which this game borrows a lot from).

This game snuck in during the early days of the "green light" program, and before games were clearly marked as being under devleopment.

In the future, I'll avoid any games with a Java requirement. .Net also burns me a little.

If you want a fun Linux game that supports Indie developers, go with Kerbal Space Program, or a number of the other games availble on steam.
