I enjoyed this game as something different - a story based game that probably doesn't have replay potential, but i enjoyed playing it. There was one annoying thing that i can't mention without spoiling the game, but it was still worth the play through.

So if you are up for a story based game, worth getting, especially if its on sale.

If you really want to know what annoyed me, then read the spoiler:

It really annoyed me that you never met the person you were walking towards - there's a build up of finding how to get to the destination, then when you finally get there, the person you have been speaking to left on the chopper. Why can't we have some form of meet up before they leave - i think that was a big let down for me.

This game really turned it around - from an over-hyped launch, which i played, to now with the constant free updates to the game. Its insane the amount of content that has been added since launch.

Its a great casual space exploration game - explore , do stuff, participate in the regular expeditions - its not a hard or complex game, so if you are after a challenge, its not for you, but for casual space exploration, its great.

Edit - 24-05-10 - I'm actually going to stay negative until they re-allow the game to be sold into regions without PSN. If they dont do this, then its highly likely they bring back this requirement to force PSN connection - they are just going to wait until people forget about it.

Re-open it to the non-PSN countries to prove you will not revert this change

This is a really fun game. The world is set in the similar style to "Starship Troopers" where everyone is just as expendable. You don't respawn, you get reinforced with another Diver.

I was worried how the conversion from top down to FPS would work coming from Helldivers 1, but i can say the game is a blast.

Just let devs do their magic and keep corporate greed out of the equation and you will have an awesome game on you're hands.

This is one of the most fun and awesome games i have played. However, this is only true if programming and AI are of interest to you.

This is like the MIT Battlecode tournaments but on a bigger scale. The possibilities you have in this game are huge! The tutorial is very good and if you know any programming language, after finishing the tutorial, you should be able to pick up and modify the tutorial code and get something working on the official servers quickly.

If you have no interest in programming or AI, then this game is not for you :)

But if it is your cup of tea, then be prepared to have your mind constantly thinking up new ways to automate your code for world domination.

If you enjoyed all the previous X3 games, then you are not going to enjoy this game at all. X3 was about trading and empire building all of which are crap in X Rebirth. X3 is still the best trading / empire building game so if that is the reason you are contemplating this game, then avoid at all costs.

Maybe if you are new to the series and dont know what has previously been offered, maybe their is a market for this game, but i was extremely dissapointed.

Not only is the gameplay flawed, but i hit soo many countless bugs that the only way i could attempt to get any value out of it was to edit my save game and give me tons of cash / fix the trading ships that were stuck etc...

Why did they change something that wasn't broken? All we wanted was an updated X3 but all we got was some terrible new style that simply doesnt work.
