Pseudoregalia is a short, well made platformer that gates areas and items behind finding the appropriate abilities and upgrades.

It focuses on movement and area traversal to an extrme degree, and does it amazingly well. Its movement is enjoyable and challenging, and its platforming puzzles tend to give you enough freedom to experiment and solve them in more than one way.

Its combat and enemy variety is fairly basic. Most enemies feel more like obstacles to travesral than they do real combat encounters. Even the ones that are real combat encounters are also fundamentally movement-first, and that's to its benefit. The simplicity of the combat makes it an extension of the movement mechanics, which, again, are excellent.

The Steam Controller is an interesting input device. While it's certainly not my favorite controller layout -- if for no other reason than the ABXY are in an odd place -- but on the games it pairs well with, it's a joy to use.

If there's ever a second iteration of Steam Controller, I hope it experiments in design just as much as the original did at the time -- there isn't enough experimentaiton in gamepads lately, the XBox or PlayStation style seem to have largely won out, but nothing new is going to happen if nobody bothers to try.
