Brothers is a perfect example of where I think video games should be going. More than anything else, I am incredibly impressed by Brothers' ability to integrate gameplay mechanics and storytelling in such a way that each complement each other. The thing is, despite video games being an interactive medium, few games seem to take full advantage of this fact. I've played games with great mechanics. I've also played games with great stories. Hell, I've even played games with both great mechanics and great stories. But Brothers is even more than that. What this game manages to do is give emotional weight to gameplay mechanics. By doing this, Brothers takes full advantage of the agency of the player, deepening the emotional bonds produced over a relatively short few hours. I hope developers take a close look at this game.
