Ricochet, ricochet, ricochet. Where do I begin?

Ricochet is an action, first-person-shooter video game engineered within the, now ancient, Goldsrc engine. Some may assume that Ricochet, like most FPS' in its genre, is sterile and unimaginative, Ricochet instead provides a new breathtaking experience through its exclusion of firearm weaponry and enabling the player to throw discs as your opponent as a substitute. While a simple idea, it's perfectly executed. Ricochet places the player into a realm of futuristic, flying-platform arena. Players are then tasked with killing or pushing off other players, utilizing these aforementioned discs. For the uniqueness of gameplay, masterminds at Valve Software prohibited the disc to be thrown up or down, similar to previous masterpieces such as the original DOOM games. Allowing Ricochet to focus on more player movement and not aim; which is an idea, not most games of Ricochet's genre entail. Player movement, as implied previously, is a massive part when it comes to Ricochet's gameplay. Player movement, whilst using the GoldSrc's engine usual movements (obviously ignoring the exclusion of crouching), is enhanced through the main mechanic of the platforms' jump pads. These jump pads enable the player to get up to higher and lower 'layers of platforms', making the game more three-dimensional. With experience, players are encouraged to always alternate between these platforms to better dodge oncoming discs thrown by opponents.
Usage of jump pads to this extent has never been seen before in any video games of its genre; not even in modern ones. Ricochet, through this unique variation of player movement, should be considered ahead of its time. As it provides a uniqueness and spark of creative game-design, unseen in games back then or now. To add the toppings on the pizza, Ricochet, although prioritises player movement, accommodates power-ups to keep the action fresh and exciting. Power-ups include: triple shots, power shots, and freeze shots. Power-ups provide a disastrous effect on players, punishing players that aren't constantly on the move to dodge them and or obtain these power-ups themselves. Freeze shots, for example, force to targets to have little movement and the ability to get stomped on by others. This keeps players on their toes, whilst keeping the gameplay unique than other games. Like when was the last time you've played an FPS that featured disc decapitation or freezing of other players.

In conclusion, Ricochet is an action, first-person-shooter video game, developed within the GoldSrc engine, that provides unique and innovative gameplay incomparable to modern games today. Therefore, yes, you should buy Ricochet. It's the best game ever.

One of the greatest movement shooters of all time and still holds up today!
Shame that Valve doesn't care too much for it anymore..
