*I'm very biased in favor of this game. I want to write more, but I think this will do for now.


I am writing this in defense of Neverwinter and some of the cons. That isn't to say they aren't without merit, but I feel they are too often blown out of proportion.

First of all, This is a MMORPG, or rather a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Grind... er Game. Yes, you have to level up to unlock features. Yes, you have to do repeatable quest. And yes, you have to farm dungeon runs. This is par for the course with this genre.

The game has a commitment-reward based approach. There are a few instances of instant gratification, but for the most part if you want something then you have to work for it. Anyone who says it would take a month to get a decent mount is just plain wrong. The cheapest mount would take a few days at most. The trick here is you have to pick a target and work towards it.

Second, and I've already touched on this, is the pay-to-win model that people keep mentioning. I can only speak to PvE, as I know PvP is currently facing balancing issues. (But let's face it, most MMO's are either good at one or the other and rarely both.) What do you pay-to-win when you're playing against AI? I have never spent money on armor, weapons or anything, and I still blast through dungeons (as one reviewer, so wonderfully blamed a p2w scheme behind that.) I have spent exactly 5 dollars on this game, and that was to get an extra character slot that was on sale for 1 dollar. Oh, yes, this game has regular sales and you get coupons pretty regularly too! All this is to say, you get access to the full game (minus certain races) for free. It might mean you have to grind a little more, but it is free once again.

If you are like me and enjoy the combat system that includes aiming, dodge timing, and really knowing your class, then you will have a blast playing this game for free. If however you don't like this play style, then that's okay. However, it is unfair to nit pick all the elements of the overarching genre and say that Neverwinter is bad. Just look at other MMO's and their out of game stores.

***Third, and not really a defense, I'd like to share with you one of the reasons I love this game. I play most games with one hand. I have a deficit on my entire right side that makes gaming (or almost anything) hard. That said, if you own a mouse with multiple buttons on the side (such as a razor naga,) then you can play this game. Unlike most other MMO's, this game isn't about memorizing a million possible sequences. The number of buttons you need to effectively play (may not be #1 at it) this game fits perfectly onto a mouse. If you, or someone you know, games like I do with one-hand and you want to try this game, then feel free to message me and I'll try to help you out.

**TL;DR In conclusion, if you like MMORPG's or are shopping for a free one to test out if you do like MMORG's, then give Neverwinter a whirl. If you don't like grinding, earning rewards, or anything that comes with a MMO, then maybe try a different genre. Remember, it's okay to not like what others do like, just don't ♥♥♥♥ on the pie when you actually hate bakery.

I game with one hand and I have to say, the simple design of combat and of building really makes this one of the most accesible games for one-handers that isn't civ 5. Really glad to see a holoflag for Able Gamers charity.
