TLDR If you can stomach an odd translation and some odd worldbuilding and storytelling, the gameplay and combat will keep you engaged enough to finish it. maybe even 100% it!

The story is oddly translated, but the gameplay is top notch. Takes a little bit to truly find its stride, but once it does and you have a weapon type you like with skills to add flavor to your combat, it gets super interesting and really engaging.
The translation is a bit rough, when characters refer to places and things they always miss "The" when referring to places whose names almost need it, The Holy Grounds, The Resting Path, The Field of Geo/Hydro/Pyro. A little bit grating to the ears, but not particularly a deal breaker, makes the tail end of the story harder to listen to at times tho.
Story isnt BAD but because of the translation and some weird pacing/storytelling its hard to understand the world and story. Whose what and why and where got lost for me about halfway, but i started getting the hang of things again near the 70% mark.
Can do just about everything in the game without different runs/saves, gameplay is a ton of fun with skills and combos for weapons, its a lot of fun.

Without the PSN requirement, the game is genuinely one of the best 4 player co-op games on the market. Glad they removed the requirement because its genuinely phenomenal to know that democracy both works and is worth defending. Liberty be praised

A surprisingly great game. Wears its Hollow Knight and Celeste inspirations on its sleeve, and it does well with them. if it wasnt for the pain that the movement sections induce, id probably 100% it!

a great little game with an interesting story.
takes the dark souls approach to worldbuilding where theres a ton of items with descriptions that flesh the world and timeline out.
gameplay takes a good minute to get into the swing of things... took me till about the third boss before i realized how your ACTUALLY supposed to charge ur spells! melee or dodge or parry, to charge, try not to just chant to charge them... once you do that the game gets significantly easier, and a lot more fun.
becomes more about active fighting instead of sit back and magic, then run in for melee as a last resort to refill mana to magic more
outside of that, game is really good!!!

Such a damn good game... to beat a dead horse and compare it to souls: its a great mix of bloodborne and sekiro. the one and ONLY thing wrong with it is: i want more... give me more of this game and this world! DLC, a big free update, Thymesia 2, i dont care, but i want it!

A touch short at 6 hours, but its damn enjoyable

One of those weird games that starts off alright, maybe ok, not really anything special, but turns so quickly into a lifetime favorite. also dont forget about the big breasted receptionist!

ive got 80 hours on my character, and im not sure if im even half way through the story yet...

There are few games like Ruina: Amazing story, Immaculate art direction, Incredible music (mili my beloved)... took me nearly 200 hours to beat the story, with plenty of farming and failing mind you, and id spend just as much going through it again if i could get that genuine "first playthrough" feel!
Game is tough, specially the final tier, but theres few games that can both touch you and challenge you to such a degree.
Project Moon is an underrated indie dev team and they deserve the moon. Buy everything they put out, this random review person guarantees it will be great!
