A dutiful sequel further exploring the limits of humanity in peril

BLUF: 9/10 11 Bit provides an excellent sequel to the first game by expanding the ideas and mechanics of its precursor to create a new and distinct experience; it explores the continued survival of New London and outstandingly explores the consequences of when humanity's restless nature is given room to grow in an extreme survival situation. It is not meant to be exactly like the first game, as that would be competing with a masterpiece, instead 11 Bit wisely opted to further explore the world of Frostpunk through a different lens. I believe this sequel compliments the introspective nature of the first.

I was apprehensive during the limited access beta, Now that the game's come out and I finished my first play through, I am ecstatic to say it is an excellent sequel to the beloved first Frostpunk.

The game explores the growing societal and ideological struggles that arise when basic necessities are no longer the sole focus of every citizen. Survival is by no means guaranteed however, and you are thrust into a position of managing a growingly restless city while guaranteeing the survival of its very own citizens who are starting to take it for granted. The first game's no-brainer practical research trees or societal laws that align with an effective strategy are no longer obvious choices, as a bias towards a specific survival philosophy will alienate citizen factions who envision a different way of life with lasting consequences. Laws, buildings, and policies can have unforeseen second and third order effects that can spiral the city out of control. Diligent planning and politicking are key to forging the future that is now not only yours to decide.

The game overall expands on the storytelling and mechanics that made the first one great. With the larger scale you lose some of the personal touch the first game had with every citizen. On the other hand however, this choice of scale helps the focus of the game, which serves as a perfect sequel to the first game's question of 'how will we survive', by asking: 'who will we become?' 11 Bit Studio offers another excellent introspective game that will see you fighting and adapting an environment where humans become just as dangerous as the cold.

Early Access Review
Fun and interesting crime management game with great potential. Seemingly a lot to learn at first but you will quickly catch onto the mechanics, great PvP experience though single player AI still needs some work. Community is active on discord and everyone is friendly and willing to help teach you more advanced strategies.

Beautiful little gem of a WW2 project. Intuitive mechanics make the controls easy to learn and the game hard to master. I find myself returning to it time and time again for its attention to detail and constant developer support. Community is great too. The campaign settings facilitates players trying to achieve a high score and/or those wanting to play through the war in a timely fashion. The option to be assigned random tanks adds a ton of replayability, as you get into the mindset of your crew by learning to flex your strengths and account for your vehicle's weaknesses. Well worth the price to support the developer and if you're looking for a charmingly unique and authentic rogue-like experience.
