Atlas Rises - No Man's Sky reaching its' potential

As many others, I followed No Man's Sky with overwhelming interest from its' first trailer to the games release. My first experience with the game was, unfortunately, a bit disastrous. As I suffered constant crashes I refunded the game but my interest remained. It didn't take long when I bought the game again and went back to the skies. All the features weren't there but the dream of exploring the galaxy, meeting aliens and learning their language, finding about Atlas and delving into its' secrets and finding out that all was not as they first seemed, all these put No Man's Sky into a special place in my mind.

Even with overwhelming negative outcry, Hello Games has been updating the game piece by piece. Foundation Update brought players different game modes, base building, farming, buyable freighters and much more. Earlier this year, a second update, Pathfinder, brought a number of visual updates, procedural generation upgrades, exocraft and also the specialization and class system to space ships and multi-tools.

Now as No Man's Sky sees its' first anniversary and as Atlas Rises, the game is reaching its' true potential. A lot of the features and promises seen in E3 trailers have taken a foot in the galaxy, and players can finally find crashed freighters, activate portals and multiplayer, which I thought we would never see, has taken its' first steps. And as earlier updates taught us, there are a lot more to Atlas Rises than it first seems.

Graphics have seen a lot of updates in the past and I've thoroughly enjoyed the artistic style of this galaxy. Sure, the procedural generation can create some funky looking inhabitants to planets but the sheer atmosphere and sights you encounter are simply breathtaking at times.

I cannot stop the review without mentioning the excellent work by 65daysofstatic. The soundtrack is one of the best features of No Man's Sky. These melodies combined with the sights you'll encounter, can create some unforgettable moments.

But what can you expect from the gameplay? There is plenty of resource gathering, scanning of flora and fauna, buying and selling materials, exploring planets for ruins, outposts and such for technologies, nanite clusters, items of interest etc. Atlas Rises brings bounty hunting and missions boards to the mix.

My humble thanks to you Hello Games for creating an experience I won't soon forget. And I can't wait to see what you will cook next.
