Nekopara is a popular visual novel. It is mainly known for its stunning art, and for its mature content, which are unlocked through a paid DLC. This VN is fully voiced, and the sprites are all fully animated too. While the story is mediocre at best, it definitely makes up for it with the stunning art and the wonderful soundtracks!
In Nekopara, you play as Kashou Minaduki, a young adult male who is about to open his own patisserie in order to pursue his dreams. He’s all set, ready to open up the next day, when he suddenly notices two of the family’s catgirls have managed to sneak in! Unable to send them back due to their love for him, Kashou has to try and manage a business and look after the catgirls too!


- Stunning art. Seriously. The sprites are all animated smoothly, and the cg’s are absolutely beautiful too.
- Fully voiced. With the exception of the protagonist, all the characters are fully voiced. While there isn’t an English dub, the Japanese voice actors still did really well.
- The NSFW scenes are really well written and honestly, some of the best I’ve seen. Which makes sense since Nekopara is promoted as a game well-known for its mature content.


- The story is pretty bland, but most slice of life stories can be lacking in story.
- Unable to play as a female protagonist.
- You have to pay extra for the NSFW DLC. For a game that’s been promoted as a NSFW game, it’s a little strange they decided to lock all the mature content behind a DLC.


Nekopara Vol. 1 has two main love interests.

Chocola - Chocola is Vanilla’s twin sister. She’s the more energetic and cheerful out of all the Minaduki catgirls. She can act quite childish, and hardly ever ends up being upset.

Vanilla - Vanilla is Chocola’s twin sister. In contrast to Chocola, she’s more stoic and calm. She’s happy to do whatever Chocola wants, as she loves her twin sister a lot.


Most people do tend to buy VN’s for the story, but I believe an exception can be made for Nekopara’s distinct and stunning art style. Even though you do have to pay extra for the NSFW DLC, I would still suggest in buying it in order to enrich your experience! For reference, it took me about 8 hours to complete the game, but I did leave it on auto and waiting for every line to finish before moving on to the next line.
