Psychonauts seems to be finally getting the respect it deserves. Apparently action-adventure platformers are something of a niche genre nowadays, but at least they are still being made. Not everything has to be a first-person shooter, especially if you're trying to tell as involving a story as this one.

I won't say too much as I don't want to spoil it for those who don't know and are tempted, but if you give Psychonauts a chance you'll find it very rewarding. Fascinatingly creative level design, a hilarous script and top-notch voice acting make this game a delight the entire way though.

Well, with the possible exception of Meat Circus. You know what I'm talking about.

The only possible gripe I'd have about this game is that the controls are a little lacking, but hopefully by the time you need to be fast and accurate you'll have mastered them. Well, that and the fact they have a sequel hook that hasn't been resolved.

Come on, people! Psychonauts is now getting the recognition it deserves, but that's not how the industry works! Less than 100,000 copies in it's first year does not feed the developers. If we don't take a chance on quirky, unusual games, all we'll have soon is Assassin's Creed 14 and Call of Duty 37. Tim Schafer deserves better than this.
