I love Rockstar, they are my favourite developers of all time but their owners/publishers "Take Two" have some of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ practices in gaming atm.

Don't buy if you want to play modified Singleplayer.

One of the best stealth games I've played that gives complete freedom to the player, however they want to end the game.

This review may contain spoilers, so proceed with caution

This game is actually good, I've gotten every achievement there is; played it a lot. In my opinion, its the best Fallout title out there at the moment, however this is not something revolutionary as some people were expecting. The engine is outdated for my taste, and I'm not referring to the graphics, I'll elaborate more on this in the cons section.

Pros
  • Great gunplay, I believe this is getting mentioned time and time again but its true. I still rely on V.A.T.S. but its fluid and better than its predecessors.

  • Weapon and Armor mods: I absolutely love the weapon modding mechanics and modding your Power armor is amazing as well.

Changing ammo for weapons, increase their damage, range, accuracy, or how much they weigh. Those are some really nice additions.

As far as power armours go, you could increase the damage resistance, paint it, decrease its weight.
I wouldn't comment on normal armour since most of the game I've used the Minutemen General outfit and the Silver Shroud costume.

  • Settlements: While its not a necessary to build one, building one, customizing it, and adding all those nice little touches to your heart desire; you feel like you've got a home in the wasteland.

  • Tons of content: While this falls both in the Pros and cons category, one thing is for sure, Nowadays there are games in the market that lack content, feel short and you feel like they're not worth the money, this game has tons of content that keeps you engaged and keeps pulling you back after periods of time.

Cons

  • The Game's engine: I feel like its outdated for the current gen and it isn't because of the graphics only, my main settlement in Sanctuary Hills whenever I ventured far away from it, the happiness dropped drastically.
Why did it happen? Apparently after getting info on my settlement via pipboy, the water levels were zero, the food levels were zero and the amount of beds I had dropped as well.(A rendering issue, if you're too far from your settlement, the game may or maynot detect the objects. Hopefully a patch might fix it in the future)

Basically, the game stops rendering stuff if you are far away, in order to get Benovelent Leader you have to stick inside to your settlement.

Then you have the animations and the typical Bethesda bugs, after playing The Witcher 3 and MGS V, I feel like Bethesda needed to step up their game.

  • Lack of interesting characters: With the exception of Piper, I didn't find any interesting characters in the game. Not much character development in my opinion; the companions are improved somewhat and a bit less robotic e.g Piper talks with people and all, I have only had like 3 companions in my playthrough, Dogmeat, Piper and Strong(for a little period of time).

  • Lack of quality content at times: There are grinding quests, the ones which Preston gives you(after completing a few of them, they'd repeat), the Quartermaster quest from BoS.
The sidequests feel like a chore.

I remember playing Witcher 3 and the sidequests in that game blew me away. After the prologue, almost every sidequest was really fun. In Fallout, the mainquests are nice and the faction ones as well, but usually the sidequests are kill a person, get this object, etc which gets boring after a while.

  • The Dialogue Interface: Don't know what I'm about to say when I choose an option, there's a mod that fixes that but it should had been in the game i.e the interface the previous bethesda games used.

  • The story: While the idea of synths is great, creating the myth about the institute was nice but they needed to be more powerful since by late game, I wasn't afraid of any synth whatsoever but fighting a deathclaw on survival difficulty was a pain.

I don't know if its nostalgia but the Dragons, the Enclave, the Daedric Warriors(in the previous Bethesda games) were more compelling foes. They made you feel like you were powerless at the start and gave you a sense of achievement as you spent more time fighting and defeating them in the game.

That being said the story has always been weak since Morrowind in my opinion for Bethesda games but there was more character freedom, in Fallout 4 you are bound to the character they created and there's no karma system whatsoever.

In Fallout 4, you have a power armour after 1-2 hours of playing right off the bat, yes fusion cores do limit the accessiblity of one but you don't feel powerless at all after slaying a deathclaw so early in the game. I wasn't really afraid of battling synths mid-late game but at times I pissed my pants after seeing Deathclaws without Power armour in Survival difficulty; I literally had to run at times without power armour from them.

Basically there's no faction in the game that feels like a major threat to the commonwealth or is powerful enough to get the job done on their own since they all need your help to accomplish their goals: the BoS need your help, the railroad need your help, & even the institute needs your help, even though there are multiple endings, there's no emotional bonding with either faction and without your help they can't get the job done and don't pose a major threat

Final Verdict
You don't have to buy this right now unless you're a huge fallout fan and you can't wait to get your hands on it, it contains bugs and glitches at the moment, I peronally didn't find any gamebreaking ones but there are a few according to what I read online. You could wait for all the dlcs or a GOTY edition(or whatever edition its called) and have a blast in one playthrough.(You might have more playthroughs because its a rpg after all and has different endings)

The performance is fine for me atleast, I wasn't overhyped for the game but I was expecting Bethesda to beat both MGS V and Witcher 3 for GOTY with this game which they failed to do for me atleast.

I give this game an 8/10

Its a great game but not a revolutionary one.

  • Is this a great game?
    Surely
  • Will it be a contender for the game of the year?
    In my honest opinion, yes
  • Did Konami cut content and prevented its chances of becoming one of the greatest games of all time?
    Absolutely

Its a great game, it does has a lot of replayability(if you are a fan of stealth), every open world game is pretty repetitive, even real life is repetitive, some go to school, some go to college, do the same thing every day.

This game isn't linear by any means, the only thing this game is lacking is that it could have been bigger if Konami didn't cut content from it.

Another con is, its pretty much hacker infested "FOBs", not many but its common.
