This is one of those games that is actually good. It's a better sequel to Hotline Miami than Hotline Miami 2 was, because unlike Hotline Miami 2, this game is fun.

This game is a bit of a mess and clearly doesn't know exactly what it wants to be. On one hand, it wants to be a competitive high skill ceiling FPS with a focus on cooperation. On the other, it wants to be a chaotic physics combat arena where every player can topple buildings and mold the battlefield to their advantage. These things technically aren't mutually exclusive but they're close, and as is they simply don't work with their current implementation.

The CS-style recoil patterns feel very out of place and have inadvertently caused most players to gravitate towards pistols and shotguns due to them requiring far less commitment to use effectively. This has created three clearly defined skill levels - the players who haven't learned any recoil patterns yet and can't afford to buy any other weapons are at the bottom of the food chain, then there's the players with pistols and shotguns above them, and those who have learned the recoil patterns are at the top. The issue here is that the only difference between the bottom and middle of the food chain is weapon. Play enough matches, earn enough credits, buy a shotgun or pistol and you instantly improve. But the difference between the middle and the top is potentially hundreds of hours of practice, which the overwhelming majority of players aren't going to be interested in putting in.

Shots to the body deal little damage and shots to the head deal high damage, which makes TTK feel very inconsistent especially due to the wildly fluctuating movement speed and engagement distance. Unlike CS where enemies move slow, stick to the ground, and are never terribly far away from you, in The Finals you're tasked with hitting someone in the head multiple times as they launch 150 feet into the air several city blocks away with pretty excessive screen shake as you shoot that you can't reduce or disable.

Gameplay involving physics entities feels particularly inconsistent. Sometimes barrels take one shot to trigger, sometimes they take ten. Sometimes you can climb walls like Spider-Man, sometimes you get stuck on a cinderblock on the ground. Sometimes you blow a hole in the roof and the objects above come crashing down with enough force to go through the floor, sometimes the roof barely caves in at all. Sometimes explosive canisters detonate immediately after being thrown, sometimes they bounce off walls like a pinball. "Sometimes" is not something anybody should be using to explain mechanics in a competitive shooter.

A game doesn't need to be perfectly balanced and 100% consistent to be a competitive shooter. Hell, look at literally every battle royale game ever made. But forcing these strictly competitive elements into an inherently chaotic game formula leaves the player expecting consistency and receiving something different, which just results in frustration.

In beta this was truly one of the worst shooters I'd ever played. There wasn't a doubt in my mind the game would be DOA with no chance at redemption. But honestly, it's come a long way since then. I'll admit it's nothing groundbreaking, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy my time with it, especially the wingsuit. I was actually going to recommend this game, especially if you can get it on steep discount, but then something curious happened which caused me to change my mind.

On November 8th of 2023 I was banned for cheating.

But I didn't cheat.

I'm sure the word of a stranger is worth very little, I can't even begin to stress how poor of a decision it would've been to cheat in Battlefield 2042 of all games on a 10+ year old Steam account with 800+ games. I would stand to gain literally nothing and risk losing very much. I've attempted to dispute the ban but EA support has stood their ground and claimed they possess irrefutable evidence that I cheated, which I would love to see, but you know how these things are - EA support responds exclusively with canned, automatically generated messages, no human interaction whatsoever.

So while I did have quite a lot of fun with this game, I can't recommend it because there's a slim chance at some point you'll essentially have the game stolen from you. Even if that wasn't the case there's still game breaking issues leftover from Battlefield 3 such as the "black screen of death" that have somehow continued to elude the development team. Just so we're clear I'm going to repeat that. A game breaking bug that was present in Battlefield 3, a game released in 2011, is still present in the version of the engine they used for Battlefield 2042. Ridiculous.

Shock humor is funny because you don't expect it. But when it's used too frequently, it feels routine, mundane, and ends up becoming offensive in a whole new way. Not because it's inappropriate, but instead you feel like whoever wrote it thought you were dumb enough to think it was funny, like you weren't worth the time or effort required for a good joke.

That's what happened here. This game is tries so hard to be shocking that it ends up just being boring. It's like if someone played Postal 2 and Cruelty Squad and thought to themselves "this looks terrible, I bet I could do better". Chances are you can't, and there's no shame in that. It seems there's a common misconception that games like that don't require talent to make which couldn't be further from the truth.

The long awaited return to Sega's millennium funk-fest is finally here!

It plays like Jet Set Radio Future cross Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. It's fun, fluid, responsive, and easy to pick up. The soundtrack is great, and the art direction is on point. But on the negative side, the level design is a little hit or miss, the combat is very rudimentary, and the story is all over the place. Not that you're playing for the story anyway. It's a flawed game, but still a ton of fun. All in all, the price is a little steep but if you're a fan of Jet Set Radio you'd probably pay double for something half as good to fill the hole Sega has left in your heart.

It would be nice to see some Tony Hawk style "classic mode" gameplay added for some additional replayability. Get a high score, collect combo letters, find the secret tape, that kind of stuff.

Just because you got the ingredients doesn't mean you can ignore the recipe.

There's a super fun game in here, unfortunately being suffocated by the trash surrounding it. The story is terrible and demands to take center stage whenever possible. Progression is glacially slow, locking basic features behind hours upon hours of grinding. There are way too many variables between armor, clothing, and equipment. The game takes itself way too seriously for its own good despite having obnoxiously glaring plot holes.

I don't think this game is terrible but at the end of the day the question is "would you recommend this game" and my answer is "no".

Fantastic game, an absolute steal at this price. The platforming reminds me of an amped up Super Mario Odyssey except without Cappy. It's bouncy, easy to control, and once mastered will have you thinking time and time again "was I supposed to be able to do that" or "am I supposed to be able to get here" only for you to find a secret power-up or alternative path.

My one and only complaint is the protagonist's design is, well, I suppose I'd word it as "needlessly sexualized". Thankfully there's an option to give the character pants, which I think is an improvement.

Bought this game, didn't like it, refunded it. Waited a year, bought it again, struggled to understand how nothing has improved. It's a mess through and through, and the moment a decent competitor comes to market this game is done for.

The tutorial is useless and has been since launch. A hologram is supposed to instruct you how to perform certain actions but it's so incredibly quiet that you can't make out anything they're saying. It also doesn't teach you anything about the bunker, which is one of the most important parts of the game! It's a fundamental game mechanic, you can't ignore the bunker!

Guns don't point or shoot where they should. I can't put my finger on the exact issue, but I know Contractors, Pavlov, Onward, H3VR, even Boneworks don't have this problem. Half the guns shoot too high, the other half too low.

Selector switches and safeties on guns don't always visually update, giving you no indication if your gun will even fire or not next time you pull the trigger. In a game like Tarkov where a fraction of a second could mean the difference between making millions or going bankrupt, hopefully you can understand how severe of a problem this is.

Squads are not balanced at all. It doesn't make any sense that 3 players can team up in a 6 player server. At that point you're basically just playing a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ version of team deathmatch.

There's essentially no hit feedback. Doesn't matter if you're shooting or being shot at, you'll have no idea if any shots landed until someone drops dead. If someone shot you in real life, you're gonna have a general idea of what direction the shot came from. Not here!

Vests block your vision when you crouch. This is such an amateur mistake, have the developers played their game even once?! You can't even bend over to grab objects off the ground because you can't see what you're trying to pick up!

Turning the gamma up gives you a huge advantage on night maps, and I mean huge. With normal gamma you're almost completely blind in the dark. Players on standalone headsets rely on night vision goggles to see pretty much anything. But with increased gamma, not only can you see in the dark, but you can see significantly better than even the best night vision goggles in the game.

The enemy AI is incredibly inconsistent. Sometimes you can walk straight up to them and snap their necks, other times they'll detect you from hundreds of meters away and kill you in two shots with a crappy Makarov.

This game sucks and the only people who like it are little kids who love betraying people in Among Us or power tripping Reddit moderators who get off on making little kids cry.

I haven't played an Assassin's Creed game since 3 which I remember being decent. I was curious of the 10+ years of improvements Ubisoft may have made to the formula, and an open world stealth adventure in ancient Egypt sounded like a fun premise, so I picked this game up on a sale and thought I'd give it a go.

It's shocking how bad Ubisoft is at making games despite being such a giant in the industry. The basic movement system of this game is frustrating and unintuitive, the combat is just button mashing, the story and writing is god awful, and the protagonist's design sucks to top it all off. Well actually, I think he looks great for the first hour or so of the game, but then for some reason they shave off his hair and beard, making him just another grizzled bald dude. Game sucks.
