Playing Are You Ready For Valve Index?
For øyeblikket frakoblet
Anmeldelsesutstilling
Good solid game, got plenty of playthrus before the dialogue became repetitive in the slightest. The characters really get you worked up, it will have you on the edge of your seat until the very last minute. The game is very deep and rich in story, and the graphics are among the best I've ever laid my eyes on. The characters have deep stories that you can really get into, unlike other titles. Not to mention the extreme story mode length. The game features an incredible array of possible modes, each with their own unique backstory and ending. I've never seen a developer put so much care into a title, and until now, I have never stumbled upon a more enticing game. I don't know why this wasn't showcased more at E3 2019. This is now my favorite and most frequently played game. Thank you, Valve.

EDIT:
the plot thickened at around 350 hours, but now I think I might finally be ready for Valve Index. Now I just have to get my wallet ready.

EDIT 2:
1,000 hours went quick. I got so immersed in this game with its intense visuals and deep plot and story that I forgot I was even playing it sometimes. It just felt like real life, honestly. If there was ever a time to recommend you play this game, it's now. I have over 1,000 hours dedicated to this game, and I still haven't 100% completed it. There are still hundreds, maybe thousands of hours of bonus content and DLC just waiting for me to unravel. That just shows how much detail and energy the developers put into this title. It truly is the gem of this century. I have never enjoyed a single game more than this one.

EDIT 3:
Several DLC packs have been released since I last updated, and they only add to the lore and deep story offered by this title. Almost 2,000 hours have gone by and it feels like I just blinked. I haven't even completely finished the base story game. The game itself is amazing, but the support from the developers post launch is what's truly incredible. However, even after all this time, I'm not ready yet. I need more time.

EDIT 4:
I met with the developers of this astonishing game, they gave me a detailed look at the design process behind some of the graphical highlights of this masterpiece. Who knew so many marvels of engineering could be poured into a single AAA release? As I crossed the 3,000 hour boundary, I only dove deeper and deeper into the rich and intense lore of the story, and I began pondering whether this fine art should be on the same wall as the Mona Lisa or the Birth of Venus. For a free-to-play title, Valve has, to say the least, disrupted the indie game market with this immaculate masterpiece. It's hard to imagine another game as wildly successful as this.

TL;DR your life will not be complete unless you play thru this game. Thanks to Triangulonut for sticking around since the very beginning.

EDIT 5:
I have just crossed the five thousand hour mark. 5,000 full hours, and they were not wasted; in fact they were fully, totally spent, enjoying, marveling and indulging myself in this complete showcase of exquisite fine art. This milestone is amazing, groundbreaking progress, and I can't believe how far this has gone, all in what feels like just a few months. This game, with its unparalleled realism, its endless, plentiful story, and strikingly obvious attention to detail and care, it just absolutely blows me away. I cannot believe so many groundbreaking new ideas were jam-packed into one single creation. This game, if you could even do it the injustice of calling it a 'game', is just so absolutely, wildly far ahead of its time that I can't even describe it in English. The ancient tongue must be used.

Every time I sit down and boot up this game (Quite, quite often, if you could possibly imagine) I am absolutely, sincerely awestruck by the wonderful visual presentation of a loading screen that Valve has masterfully crafted for us peasants to gaze upon. This masterpiece creation, in its entirety, deserves more recognition. When I finally beat the first boss last week, I was absolutely thrilled to check out my new loot and gear before realizing Gabe had released a patch that reset all my progress back to zero. I could practically hear him sitting back, playing his internal developer copy of Portal 3 and cackling at me as I completely restart the game from the top, but guess what, that's not going to stop me. I am going do it and I'm here to document the journey. I will 100% this game even if it takes me 10,000 hours. You can't silence me, Gabe

EDIT 6:
After 6,000 hours of playing this game and nothing else, I decided to try some other games and take a short break, only to see whether the technology used in today's greats can surpass the high bar set by this title. The conclusion that I came to, is that the latest updates to the game, which added path tracing outside photo mode and DLSS 3 with frame generation, allow this wonderful indie game to grab brand new AAA titles by the throat. I played through some of the GOTY 2023 nominees such as Baldur's Gate, ToTK among others; and I am still at a loss of words for how Valve was able to accomplish this feat of engineering.

A game that stands up to the test of time and holds its weight against some of the most highly anticipated heavy-hitters of years after its time, is one that I would gladly pay for again and again. To admit that after all this time, Valve has yet to charge for ANY of their numerous DLC packs and additions to this game since it was released, is to admit that Valve has tamed the beast of consumerism. That is, that Valve has crafted an absolute Masterclass in level design and with such a melodic symphony to accompany, such that its thrilling ambiance was never forgotten, even while hundreds of hours deep in other games. Yes, even while deeply and thoroughly enjoying a 'game' such as Nintendo's continuation to the Breath of the Wild (if AYRfVI is a game, TotK is a shovelware demo), I still found myself humming along to Valve's composition, rather than the Nintendo soundtrack. And whenever Link appeared on screen, the only thing I saw was Gaben staring back at me. Gabe looked me deep into my soul, sighed deeply, then he told me,

"Why are you playing trash game. Go back and finish 'Are You Ready for Valve Index?' If you haven't hit 10,000 hours you haven't even finished the main story."

As we all should know, it is offensive to disobey a direct order from Father Newell Himself. Disrespecting Him would immediately cause the cancellation of Portal 3, and by extension, Bully 2. So, for the sake of humanity, I will be finishing the game and I am here to document the journey. It will not be easy, not by any means, but the fact that this game is such a masterpiece will make it a bit easier. There is not a better game to be stuck playing for the next 4,000 hours. Never was, never will be, this game will remain on the top of the podium for decades to come. I cannot see a future in which this game is no longer relevant, as the political themes throughout clearly relate to those we experience, and I've said it before but the sound design is just so over-the-top and ridiculously well-done, that it almost doesn't mesh well with the rest of the game. I just can't get over how realistic everything sounds, and yet the graphics could still use some improvement.

Maybe I'm just picky now, seeing as how I've had a break to play some of the newer releases. But my opinion will never change. I am in love with this game, it will always be my all-time favorite, by far.
