idle game design for literally THOUSANDS of hours of playtime. I regret my life choices

Although I think Fallout 4 is the worst installment in the SINGLE-PLAYER fps series of Fallouts, I think the game itself is worth the purchase on sale (~$20-$30). Similar to other games in the series, I have about 1k hours on console before switching over to PC.

The detail put into this game from the graphics to the voice acting is by far the best in the series and really helps encapsulate the mind into the game being played. The DLC are incredible in terms of depth and appearance. Far Harbor and Nuka-World provide storylines and side quests akin to Point Lookout, Honest Hearts, or Old World Blues where an entire new world is free to explore and approach in any which way you desire. The gunplay is easily the best and really accentuates the..... unique experience, shall we say, of Fallout combat. The environment is diverse and features biomes unlike those seen before in previous iterations from knee-deep swamps to barren lands stricken with radiation storms. The addition of weapon modifications takes the simple mechanisms instated in Fallout: New Vegas and makes it more interactive and customizable. The possibilities are "endless"! Well, not really.

The modification system is about as easy as picking up three random things on the ground and making the best mod in the game for your weapon of choice. The utilization of junk is such a way that there is millions of random junk items on the ground but it only takes about 10 minutes in game to get all you need to get what you need. Other pitfalls of this game are the communication wheel which bastardizes the method of communication found in previous versions of the game. Instead of meticulously determining which speech is ideal (or funny) you are basically spoonfed options that are as simple as "GOOD"; "BAD"; "MAYBE LATER". There are many times you think you know what is going to be said, but instead it's some random line that has no bearing on the two-word synopsis given. Worse than that is the fact that the speech lines tend to get you drawn into countless looping quests that clutter your quest log and bore you half to death before you make it a quarter of the way through the main story. They offer nothing apart from a way to fill the time in the empty void that is the life of someone who plays video games.

Overall, Fallout 4 provides a great game in the series of first-person Fallout games. I would recommend it to anyone who has played Fallout 3 or New Vegas. I would also recommend it for first time buyers of the series as it is the most approachable in terms of ease of play and familiarity to other contemporary games, but I do hope those who do buy it will play the older games in the series that are, in my opinion, much better and interesting to play!

Best game I have ever played, hands down (>1000 hrs on xbox). The quest line has so many paths you can take that have their own logical reasoning making it more interesting to play along with (apart from Caesar's Legion who just want to kill and enslave everyone). The factions in the game are vastly different in how they operate and how they The map is fairly large with so many side quests that take you down so many routes that are separate or even related to the main quest in some sense. There are tons of weapons and builds that you can use that are viable and loads of perks that can help with making your build. The obvious downside to this game is the fact that it is one of the glitchiest, buggiest games I have ever played. If you don't save constantly or haven't saved in a while since you have been exploring the wastes, you will find that you may lose a TON of progress due to a loading crash or just some other inexplicable crash. Luckily, the modding community for this game has done a magnificent job to try and make this game more playable and, somehow, more fun. Overall, this is one of the best single-player games of all time in my eyes hence why I wasted my time writing a review for it 9 years later :)
