Consider this review a "neutral" recommendation.

The game wears its inspirations on its sleeve - it's Killer 7's combat, Silent Hill's levels and Catherine's story, except extremely gay. It's ambitious and it almost pulls it off - but not quite. If this game was a third of the size and all of the care and love went into that third - it'd probably be a thumbs up from me.

The combat is just way too easy, bland and doesn't really evolve, the levels are linear and the story? Idk, someone's into it, I just found it too blunt compared to any of the inspirations, but especially Catherine.

It's great, from a structural perspective it's a lot more ambitious than The Case. I wouldn't say the levels are bigger than in The Case, but they're definitely more dense and varied.

My only disappointment is everything but the puzzles - the soundtrack and the art style nosedive really hard compared to The Case. All of the tracks are at best non-invasive background noise. The art is just uncanny valley between illustration and cheap phone games - I guess that's how skeletal animation looks with hand-painted 2d art. The Case in comparison has beautiful pixel art (at least in the main game). I guess you have to pick your battles?

Hidden gem. It's not perfect, but for the price and length - an absolute steal.

Absolute masterclass in tactics games, head and shoulders above everything else. Tom Francis did it again, this time even better, absolute must play. This is what every other tactics game dreams of feeling like, but none of them quite make it.

There's a lot of game here, over 15 hours, but you end up wanting more once it's done.

There's only 2 very mild points of criticism I have:
1. You level up your crew with perk points and perk refunds are limited, and I'm not sure why? This would allow me to replay missions with different tactics as I found a combo I liked and relied on it all the way through the game, without trying different things.
2. Some tooltips aren't worded precisely, which isn't a huge deal you see the interaction not work out how you thought and you rewind.

A rare 10/10 imo.

I LOVE this game. It introduces new mechanics at a perfect pace, as soon as climbs start feeling too short - you get to the longer ones. Some of the sections on more advanced climbs make you go "no way this is real".

It's exhilarating, palms get sweaty, it's fun as hell. If it looks moderately interesting from the trailer - just get it.

Some balance and performance issues, but very fun. The destruction is a fundamental part of the game and adds a lot, TTK is long enough to reward good aim and not random flicks.

Abysmal level design, like unplayably bad. I had to look up a playthrough to see that there is an unmarked door that I had to bump against so it opens so I can progress.

The difficulty is whack, there are no difficulty presets like easy/medium/hard, there are just two sliders - one for player damage, the other for enemy damage, the latter one caps at x2.0 and it's still laughably low. Player damage bottoms out at 0 and honestly I'd even be fine with doing literally no damage but sometimes you can't progress without killing every enemy, then sometimes you can and there's rarely any indication of which way is it.

Weapons aren't great either. Pistol/SMG/shotgun oh wow very inventive, then there's a completely busted grenade launcher that you can oneshot yourself with and the worst chaingun in any game ever.

Honestly a shame, because aesthetically it's really cool, but with so many so called "boomer shooters" around - this is the worst one I played yet.

I haven't played old fromsoft games but there's no way they're this boring. Every location is just a maze of twisty passages, all alike. Combat is trivial as soon as you find a ranged weapon, melee isn't difficult either but annoying to engage in. There's very little guidance on what to do next and at one point (how to get into the castle) I had to look up a guide to figure out what am I supposed to do to progress, and I'm no stranger to "figuring out the game is the point" kind of games.

And it's all really sad as it seems like a passion project, it's almost a game I'd love if it were a little better, but it's just boring mixed with frustrating.
