I'm an original, life-long gamer. I was born just at the right time to have been growing up at the same time as video games. Yeah, more than likely I'm older than you. I played arcade games when they cost a quarter and they were everywhere. I used to play Battle Zone and Tempest and Dragon's Quest and Donkey Kong and Missle Command in the grocery store while waiting for my parents to grocery shop. Space Invaders and Centipede and Duck Hunt in the pizza parlor - after finishing eating of course - shout out to Mom. Qix and Sinistar at the movie theater. Joust and Defender at the Bowling Alley next door to the doctor's office when mom had physical therapy after her knee surgery. I played Pitfall on the coleco vision. Ultima and Lemmings and Battle for Guadalcanal on the Apples at school. Choplifter and Sea Wolf on the Commodore 64. The console era of Mario games and I don't know how many Friday night Road Rash events with my buddy Dan on the Sega Genesis. And of course Goldeneye on N64. Wolfenstein 3D, and for that matter all the Dooms and Quakes ID could produce for years. Nascar Racing on the network at the office with all the guys at the end of the day. My buddy Ken and I spent countless hours playing multi-player games of all sorts (including many, many rounds of Links 386) over a 14.4-33.6kbps dial-up connection with each other. The phone lines just couldn't support 57.6k without frequent drops... and who wants to keep dropping and reconnecting in the middle of a wild formula 1 race?!? PGRacing and Mech Assault and Halo on the Xbox. Half Life was the spawn of the Counter Strike mod, and a years-long addiction to Ts vs. CTs. Age of Empires, among many other RTS games have sucked many hours from my life.

For years I thought I might get involved in game creation, but hey ... life happens. Anyway, I own and play a variety of game types, but usually only play world of warships consistently these days. I have played more counterstrike than all my other games combined though. I think the overall multiplayer game play experience is better than any other games I have played. The combination of co-op play mixed with the competition of teams, in a realistic environment/situation is addicting. I have found some of the same aspects in world of warships, with both tactical and strategic aspects coming into play, albeit at a slower pace than that of an fps. The social aspect of online gaming is pretty cool, cause, you know when you spend your free time gaming, you don't get out often enough to meet a whole lot of new people who have similar interests, because, well, they're gaming. I am unfortunately not able to fully enjoy living the gamer lifestyle, as I'm a regular joe with a full-time job, and a house and a family to take care of and enjoy. My wife can hold her own in our fps battles ... probably one of the coolest moms ever for a house full of gamer kids ;) Sucks when you get old enough that your reactions slow down and you can't beat your kids anymore, but hey, it's all good fun, and actually it's pretty cool to see how good they are.
