buy this if you want the base game bugged as heck!!!

wait a couple months for patches, then just look to see what mods thunderstore has to patch the existing mess that is seekers of the storm.

edit: turns out they ruined it for all of us!! the 'parity' made pc players experience some of the bugs that console players do, as well as introduce numerous new ones that have an ENORMOUS impact on your runs (mythrix phase 4 being unkillable, false son irreversibly locking ALL your skills).

deplorable job by gearbox. i have never seen a game be massacred so horribly that was so well received.

how to downpatch to before the recent update:

edit: they have reverted most of the issues that came with the seekers of the delta time update, and it is now much more playable since then.

going into a cluster and searching for 5+ star systems is always fun, absolutely insane seeing the orbits occurring over tens of thousands of years.

Extremely dense and engaging object placement. In all the three levels, there's always a place you're going to want the ball to go, whether it's the next level objective or trying to get 'up the middle' to get to the next level right after the boss dies, and is replaced by its tougher successor.

As others have said, this game manages to expand on Demon's Tilt in many ways, from sound design to game objectives to even replayability.

The greatest diamond in the rough I have ever played.

Despite not even touching the building part of the game I have had so much fun going from one weak character to a formidable group of warriors specialized in their own weapons of expertise.

I've been playing with the Ultimate UWE / Kaizo Experience (2023) - Lore Friendly modpack/collection and it's much more stable than the mods I'd handpicked and used before considering modpacks.

edit: that modpack sucks ♥♥♥♥, frequent crashes and softlock at the eastern cities. the most popular modpack - Age of Blood and Sand - is crash-free with 100 hours and has a super fun weapon quality system that makes it satisfying to wield the meitous, the Mk.VIs, the Catun No.9s.

Also, after building my first base, I'm glad to say it's real fun trying to deal with scaling armies of warring factions in different ways. Before I was able to take 20-man shek raids head-on, I was able to build a very long moat using a long lake. After getting masterwork weapon and armor smiths, I removed the moat and despite mid-endgame shek raids still putting up some fight, resource gathering was enough just from my squad grinding at my base to take them on. I'd been nomadic in my past 500 hours of Kenshi, but after realizing how easy life can be with the optimal base placement, I'm never going back (except maybe for OP runs).

As a caves of qud player of over 2,000 hours, yet someone who didn't find rimworld as enticing, I think I'll enjoy Adventure mode more than most when it comes to this version of the game.

As for how fortress mode differs from my failed attempt of getting into rimworld, it's already an improvement for myself considering it is a simulation that is much wider in scope than rimworld's more colony sim-focused gameplay, which has thus far been more than enough to engross me.

The game's been in development for over two decades, and I think $30 is a fine price for all who already enjoy open-world, replay value, and continued development games as I've learned for a while now that the AAA gaming market has undergone a huge shift towards visual-heavy games that they can then put an arbitrarily high price tags on which are not proportional to the quality of the actual content within them.

Dwarf fortress in 2022, however, is arguably priced inversely proportional to the amount of content and entertainment value derived from it, when put against said AAA games.
