I was going to give this a good review. It was alright fun, but I can't recommend this honestly due to their deleting of Oxenfree from Itch. There was an option to remove it from sale and not delete it from people's licenses but they chose to delete it.
If you need to play it, I hope you have it on family sharing already.

The owners are removing this game from itch users' libraries. They are deleting it. A negative review is the only acceptable review at this time.
I enjoyed this game but really, I just enjoyed it. It's not at the level of some other games with a narrative focus, and so I can only recommend that you only play it through family sharing. It being removed from Itch and removing the ability for users to download it is completely unacceptable.

The dev did a little experiment and came out with a great game. I enjoy feeling overpowered and dying once because of my overconfidence.

I really don't want to recommend against this, but man does this run terribly on steam deck while Elden Ring runs just fine. No graphics options, and after I completed the prologue and relaunched the game, it let me go to menu select but I had to replay the prologue. What?
Anyway. If it improves to even let me play at 40 fps I'll change this to a positive. The music changes to me are fine; I don't really think the lack of music ruins it or anything, just that an action game doesn't feel smooth when Devil May Cry 5 felt fine.

They've got two weeks before I refund. I really don't want to.

This is shaping up to be my GOTY 2024. Nuanced, deep, and funny, this RPG-maker game about the Hussite wars really introduces a world like Fallen London, Sunless Seas, or Book of Hours by immersing you in it and revealing more and more and showing how much they really thought everything out.

For such a short and limiting game, you're better off buying Zortch or Duke Nukem 3D. This is clearly a side project that he made for fun.

This is a good VS-like game, definitely worth a few dollars. Free right now (as of 2024-07-14) for its release promotion but will not be soon.

Early Access Review
I recommend this game but not in its current state. I love it but it's quite literally not finished yet, only Episode 1 is out. Only buy if you have played the demo. I am highly confident it will continue to be as great as it already is.
So yeah, can't bring myself to drop a negative review just because it's early access. It's too fun. It's Duke 3D with melee combat as the focus.

Edit: For more clarity, I love it so far. Chapter 1 feels finished, it's just relatively short and all we have is chapter 1. Still, I am confident I'll get my money's worth.

Tedious and repetitive, with very little room for error. This is technically a roguelite. If you like this concept, play Book of Hours. If you want a constantly engaging introduction to the new world brought to you by one of the creators (or the creator?) of Fallen London, Sunless Sea/Skies, this is the game for you.
I honestly love this game, but love Book of Hours even more.
