The old classic Dungeon Siege from the old times. This was one of the best action RPG series out there for its time. The gameplay is smooth, the graphics are nice (at least for its time) and there is a variety of options for you to adjust. The AI adjustment is great for the character and the party members, and it allows you to set them up so that they either only do exactly what you tell them to do and nothing else, or set it up to engage enemies automatically or to stay in formation, no matter what.

The skill system and leveling is simple. By swinging a melee you get STRength and your melee skills increase. Casting spells (combat and nature magic schools) gives you INTelligence. Using ranged weapons gives you DEXterity. You can also play as a jack of all trades or specialise in one or two things.

The potions only use the amount of healing or mana you need, and the remaining HP/MP in the potion is kept for later use. You can also combine contents of half-empty potions. This was a great thing back then, and it is still a very unique way to handle it.

The multiplayer used to be very good, with netcode being able to stay in perfect sync between players. Not sure how it works these days as the directplay functionality may not be so good anymore. But if you can use Hamachi or something similar you should be able to set up a game with relative ease.

When I tried this on Windows 7, I couldn't get it to work. The game runs on Windows 10, but can crash occasionally so if you decide to play this game, save often!

If you can find all the workarounds anf get it to work, then this is one of the best action RPGs of its time, and well worth grabbing on a sale.

Okay singleplayer, but the multiplayer portion has a lot of problems (Low playerbase, a LOT of desyncs making the games unplayable).

This review was revised after I came back to the game after a long break. Seems the game has died in my absence.

When I saw this game in the store for with a €5 price tag, I though to myself: "Might as well give it a go, it looks like fun."

Oh, boy, was I positively surprised. This game is reminiscent of good old shooter games like Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold and Catacomb Abyss 3D. The story is that you enter a derelict space station, and you are greeted by an empty lobby. You decide to enter the lift anyway, in hopes that you might run into someone. Of course, it becomes very apparent that there is something very wrong with the station as you are attacked as soon as you exit the lift. Oh, bother.

The tools you get for dispatching enemies start pretty standard, starting from a normal pistol, rifle and so on, but soon you start finding more exotic weapons like a puppy-launcher (yes, it shoots little puppies into enemies), shotgun-flail (who thought this is a good idea? and quick-sand gun (gives the enemy that sinking feeling), which are all pretty satisfying to use. Of course, these items wear from use so you may not be able to use the same weapon for too long, which encourages variety. Luckily you can repair your equipment (rare weapons being an exception) on safe floors which are located on every fourth floor. There you can also restock with ammunition and supplies for the next levels with the credits you have found scattered around. You can also craft various items such as stimpacks with various effects (damage absorption, health kits etc.) and different grenades (mines, frag grenades etc.), which make will make your life on the station a little bit easier.

Your character initially starts with one perk which you can choose in the beginning of the game, and you get a new one every level. New perks are unlocked as you progress trough the game with the intel you collect. It is added up when your character dies, so you get a little bit more choice with each play-trough.

The game generates the levels, enemies and loot randomly, giving it a lot of replay value. The difficulty level is pretty much spot on, even though the harder difficulties are very unforgiving.

The only negative sides I can think of about this game are that you cannot save and quit the game to continue later, but have to sit trough the whole game in one sitting. Which can sound ridiculous because there are 50/100/200 levels to plow trough on normal difficulty level. There doesn't seem to be a pause option either. Also the game could do with volume control options for music and sound effects, and a master volume setting. Setting custom resolution would not hurt either because right now you can have a small window, double window, full screen ( small window with huge black borders) and stretched full-screen. the wall textures could use some more variety as it may sometimes make the game feel a bit monotonous and repettitive. But despite of these weaknesses in design the game is a solid little shooter game.

If you don't mind some simple, random shooter fun, you might want to give the demo a try first and decide if you like or not. I definitely did. One of the better indie games I have seen in a while.

I would also be able to recommend this game for younger audiences, because there is no mature content (blood/gore/bad language) anywhere in sight, but with reservation, as Rogue Shooter is deceptively hard and challenging.

Dark, ugly, buggy and quite frankly, not worth your time. The idea behind it is nice though, but the game itself is a ham-fisted cluster♥♥♥♥ with graphical issues which ruin the experience. Black screens on loading game with no way to fix it anyone?

Sad to see a good idea ruined by incompetence.

Update 07.09.2014. I decided togive this game a try again, remembering it had some good moments. But alas, it was not to be. A recent reinstall brought a new issue. First, the game crashed in the menus. When I got over that, the video was so blurred out so that I could really not see anything. Once I managed to fix that, the crashes started. It started crashing to desktop after 2-3 minutes after starting up the game, even if you just waited in the menus and no amount of workarounds on the intertnet or tinkering around in .ini files fixed this. This game is now completely broken beyond any salvation.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, GeForce GTX760.

Verdict: Save your money and buy something that actually can be played. Even if you receive this as a gift, either politely decline, or add toinventory instead of adding it into your library so you can gift this to someone you really, really don't like.
