Entire hollow knight lore
Now that I got your attention, let me tell you about the entire lore of hollow knight, basically it all started when a pale wyrm traveled to the land of hallownest, but before the wyrm arrived there were already other gods that the bugs of hallownest worshipped, the embodiment of light itself (the radiance) and a endless eldritch void (shade lord), and those two did NOT get along. But neither of those gods were in any way “good” one was a hive mind and the other consumed anything in its path, so the bugs of hallownest turned to the pale wyrm, a god that promised them free thought and safety through his prophetic visions, but the wyrm didn’t match the size of the bugs of hallownest, so he hatched from the carcass of his old wyrm body, and lo and behold the pale king was born, and with that the kingdom of hallownest and the white palace. Now that I’ve established how hallownest and the kingdom came to be, now let me talk about the return of the radiance and the fall of the kingdom. The kingdom was successful for many many centuries, until a very unfortunate bug found a statue of the radiance, and he couldn’t stop seeing her in his dreams, she was everywhere at that point, and the radiance being a hivemind, she quickly spread as an infection throughout hallownest. Out of option and out of time, the pale King had to act fast, he thought to himself, “if the Radiance control all and thee who possess thought and reason, there should be none of such” so he began the creations of the vessels, beings born of root, god and void, children of the white lady and the pale king, hollowed out by the void, empty of all thought, feeling, reason or emotion, a being truly empty... Finding the one truly HOLLOW vessel wasn’t as easy as it sounds, there were thousands upon thousands of dead vessels, all stacked together one by one, at the bottom of hallownest, the incompetent and the weak, the emotional and the thoughtful, but none truly hollow. Then stood the Pure vessel, The Hollow Knight. The pale king took this pure vessel to the kingdom above, the vessel grew and learned, it’s only duty was to survive the radiance as the one true pure vessel, only then when it was already getting locked up in the black egg, was it revealed, it was never hollow, it did have reason and thought, it loved its father and wanted to protect its kingdom it adored so much. The pale kings efforts were all in vain, The Radiance kept on spreading, and with no one or nothing to stop her infection from spreading, hallownest quickly crumbled. The Pale King retreated to his palace, and in his throne now death bed, he spoke his final breath, “no cost too great”. Years after the fall of hallownest, a vessel that had escaped the abyss found its way back to hallownest, that being you (the player). After defeating the hollow knight and finishing the game, you get the “Hollow Knight” ending, where the little ghost replaces the hollow knight and becomes the Vessel, but there being several endings to the game, you can also go for the “dream no more” and “sealed siblings”, there is no true ending to hollow knight. But the community generally agrees that the best ending is embrace the void (although it’s hard as ♥♥♥♥♥ to get though I’m in pain) the only ending where little ghost, hornet and the pure vessel all survive. Upon Absolute Radiance's defeat, the Knight's shell splits open and their shade falls into the roiling mass of void below. Soon after the screen flashes and suddenly the Shade Lord appears in the Knight's place. After prying open Absolute Radiance's face, the Void Entity then proceeds to slash and rip at her until she eventually explodes into essence. Afterwards, Void starts to rain down from the skies inside Godhome and the Godseeker is seen, staring up in shock as the inky substance leaks out from above the clouds. The Shade Lord suddenly shoots downwards towards the main atrium of Godhome and on its passing a few Void tentacles reach out and wrap up Godseeker leaving her fate undecided. Then the scene cuts to the physical body of the Godseeker still in the Junk pit leaking Void as her body starts to pulsate and seep out even more of the black substance. Shortly after, black tentacles burst out of her body and start lashing out. The scene shifts again to inside the Temple of the Black Egg where Hornet stares perplexed at the shrivelling vines of the Infection. A figure dragging chains suddenly lurches out which causes Hornet to ready her guard. This figure, although unspecified, is believed to be the Hollow Knight, now free from their duty to contain the Radiance.
