Prey 2017 Review

My video review here. No story spoilers:

So Prey is a pretty fine game. I was initially not interested, but saw some trailers and decided to delve in.

Plot Summary

You control Morgan Yu, who has submitted himself to experimentation with neuromods, an invention that gives people new skills and powers instantly.
However, the aliens, which are the reason neuromods exist, have broken containment, and you must stop them or else Earth is lost.

My Likes

Voicework - None of the voices were annoying to listen to, and they emitted realistic emotion.

Artwork - I think i've now become a fan of Fred Augis' because of his artwork in the game. I didn't even know he did concept art for "Life is Strange" as well. Definately need to follow more of his work.

Music - Absolutely love Mick Gordon's music. Became a fan of his work since Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Atmosphere - You always have to watch your back because its easy to be taken off guard by the mimics.

My Gripes

Glitches - My biggest gripe with the game were the glitches. I don't know if they have been fixed since I beat it last month, but most of them appeared much later in the game.

Examples:

-I forgot to mention this in the video, but there were MASSIVE frame drops when you first enter the power plant. It "sort of" got fixed by coming back to it later.

-At a specific point in the game, you meet NPC's that are supposed to have weapons, but some of them didn't carry any. =/ That section was really annoying because one of them was standing in the way only to get killed. It was hard to protect them.

-One of the NPC's appeared in 2 locations at once at a specific point in the game. Dr. Igwe appears in the cargo bay AND your office.

-I had a save corruption issue. When I saved at a specific point in the game When Dhal is in the chair getting his mods removedeverytime I attempted to load that save file, my game would crash. I had to revert to a save before I entered that room.

Probably a bit too much backtracking - After playing for dozens of hours it was starting to get old, and just felt like it was to artificially increase the length of the game.

Nitpicks

-Saw a few typos.
-A few audio glitch's.
-How did the guy who was mind controlled escape the room that I locked him in? >C
-Why can't you find the body of the male doctor that was behind the glass at beginning of the game?
-Human ai could be better. They didn't act realistic in a few scenarios in the game. Example: Dr. Ilyushin got upset with Morgan after finding out what happened with her father and tells you to get away from her, but then talks normally to you as if your friends just minutes later if you continue to speak with her.
-Why didn't Danielle Sho come back inside the station?!

Closing Thoughts

Overall, it's a fantastic game. The ending was just okay. You get hints throughout the game that tell you whats going on if you pay enough attention. By the time I reached the end, I had a firm grasp on the situation, though I wished that a 'bit' more information was provided. I feel its worth a purchase.
