Had to pause the game to write this really quick:

This game is bad. I'm about an hour into it and here are some of the reasons that I want to jab my eyes out with a rusted spoon, and also why I will continue to play this heap of garbage until I've completed it:

1. This guy talks like he's batman. Modern day batman, not the 1960's batman.
2. Everyone is sucking this dude's D hard... "You're an asset to our team, Carter!" "I can see why you were chosen to be on the force, Carter" "You saved my life, I guess that's ANOTHER one I owe you, Carter!" "Carter IMPREGNATE ME" "CARTER WE EXIST TO SERVER YOU CARTER!"
3. The controls are WONKY and STUPID.
4. The point of this game is to literally PAUSE combat every couple of minutes to strategize your next several moves and the moves of the people you just met, but for some reason think you're "Elvis and the second coming at the same time" (Direct quote from the game...) If the devs think I'm really going to pause combat to plan a 3-person assault BiA style on a baby alien and a laptop gun, they're loony!
5. The 'acting' is ATROCIOUS. My sides hurt.
6. All I had was a shotgun. There was a bag of BULLETS. Picked it up, now I have full shotgun ammo....WTF
7. I guess I'm a sadist and will continue to play this...

One of the best games ever hands down the best in the series i remeber playing it like 24/7 thanks to my older bro introducing it to me, i crambed the heck out of it on the ps3 always doing random things just because you could, when III and IV came out they where very big dissapointments very happy it's here/

One problem i do have is it randomly crashes after 2ish hours but who cares one of the best game ever

this game is great. its extreamly fun, extreamly challanging, and just all round a great game... however it does have its downfalls, low population being the worst contender. if you're looking for a game where you can carry a team based on how good you can get, battlerites the game for you. alot of the bad reviews make note of how unbalanced the game is, how ranged deals the most damage and how unfair the matchmaking system is, i however, do not beleive this to be the case, i believe people complaining about uncontrollable things just dont understand basic machanics and blame everything other than themselves. if youre looking for a game based more on how good you, yourself is as a player, battlerite will be a good choice. if youre looking for a game to blame your teamates, try league so you can blame your jungler........

I really love this game. The reasons why I love this game is 1. the sniping mechanics are soild semi realistic. 2. The gameplay is tense and really soild and fun. 3. The sneaking mechanics are really good it make you feel like a real sniper. Now this game is very good but it has its downsides and the downsides are 1. The graphics are poor and kinda looks like a PS2 game. 2. The story is well generic and bland (think any cop show ever). 3. The character can be kinda frustrating when they do things that I would never let them do in real life. Overall this game is worth a buy but only on a sail I wouldn't buy it a full price and when you do hopefully buy it treat it more like a sniping sim and not a story game. Have fun with the game!

The Ultimate Make-You-Faint Survival Horror Experience

A camcorder with night vision, an asylum, and no combat—this is what essentially inspired three independent game developers from Canada to create possibly the most disturbing survival horror game of the last decade. Shortly after its initial release, Outlast acclaimed critical success, leaving hardened survival horror veterans and newbies alike terrified.

(Note: If you are too lazy to read through the entirety of this review, I’d suggest you to scroll to the last paragraph, a TL;DR is awaiting you.)

Story
Slipping into the role of Miles Upshur (yes, his name is supposed to be a pun, “Miles up shore without a paddle”), you drive in your Jeep to the Mount Massive Asylum, set in the remote mountains of Colorado, to expose the sleazy machinations of the infamously corrupt Murkoff Corporation. Just a day before or so, Miles received a tip from an anonymous source that Murkoff is masking their human rights violations under the guise of charity.

Upon arriving, Miles is shocked to discover the asylums’ halls littered with the mutilated corpses of its former staff. When he encounters an impaled, dying SWAT officer, he is informed that the maniacal patients of Mount Massive, known as ‘Variants,’ have broken out and are freely roaming the grounds of the psychiatric hospital, all the while butchering Murkoff’s employees. Henceforth, Miles’ objective is to escape from the asylum. What he will come across on his path, however, walks a horrid line between science and religion, nature and technology, moral behaviour and the basic human instinct to survive...

Outlast deals with the crimes of the 20th century, specifically in the way technology outpaces our ability to grasp it, eventually leading down a road of destruction, as well as our tendency to project monsters and conspiracy theories onto situations we are unable to understand, almost in an innate narcissistic manner. The game is not sheepish in the way it forces you to look at the dark side of humanity—no, Outlast dares to provoke you to explore its violence, gore, and strongly sexually twisted and perverse content.

Gameplay
Since Miles is a freelancing journalist and has thusly no combat experience whatsoever, your only way of survival is to hide or, alternatively, outrun your enemies... if you can. Armed with your camera, you will have to navigate through dark places by using your night vision—and let me tell you, Mount Massive has lots of those. Keep in mind that the night vision quickly consumes your batteries, and you will most definitely scavenge for additional batteries found throughout the asylum. Furthermore, the feel of Miles’ movement is pleasantly realistic; heavy and tentative when walking, frantic and clumsy, but flexible, when fleeing down a corridor, vaulting over overturned desks, and slamming doors open.

Don’t forget—or be too scared—to use your camcorder and collect the documents that are scattered through the asylum. They provide further insight into Miles’ thoughts, the backstory, and other supplementary information about the hospital.

Graphics & Sound
One of Outlasts’ strong points is its grand atmosphere. Every chapter and each inmates are charmingly designed. At its core, Outlast is not solely photorealistic but also caricatural. For an indie game, the visuals are well-done, although some parts lack the detail and fine touches.

Personally, I love the 80s-inspired film grain that is ever so subtle yet effective when using the night vision that casts a pallid green glow and a ghostly swathe over the darkness of the asylum.

In addition, Miles is no anonymous hero: Everything he does is animated accordingly, from simply shutting doors to leaning over door frames to check if anyone dangerous is creeping around and lusting for his death. Moreover, the fantastic, almost brutal soundscape in which you are repeatedly pushed over the edge with nerve-wracking musical pieces, screams of despair, Miles’ beating heart, and eerie noises will keep you on your toes for the majority of the gameplay and create a tremendously tense environment.

Difficulty
There are four difficulties in Outlast:
Normal
Hard
Nightmare
Insane
Playing on the regular difficulty doesn’t make the game necessarily less scary or too easy, but enemies aren’t as aware of your whereabouts. As you increase the difficulty, the Variants become stronger and smarter, requiring fewer hits to kill you and searching more thoroughly for you when you try to hide from them. Besides that, the amount of batteries you can carry will become limited to two packs on Nightmare and Insane, and whilst the game automatically resets to the most recent checkpoint if you die on the lower difficulties, you’ll lose all your progress and get send back to the very start of the game on Insane mode. Well, there is a reason it’s called Insane...

Conclusion
When it comes to horror films, I’m not delicately strung. Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious, Paranormal Activity, The Ring—nothing too dramatic for me. Regarding Outlast, on the other hand, I panicked at times and could feel how my heart rate was seriously going up while I was squealing in my chair. Sure, Outlast is far from perfect and has some of the problems you frequently encounter in the first game of a franchise (repetition, lack of variety, and a short campaign); yet, I’d go as far as claiming that Outlast is definitely a favourite game of mine.

Despite this, I do have a few issues with its storytelling and objectives. Most of Outlasts’ sparse narrative is told through discarded hospital documents and Miles’ own cynical notes in which he colloquially rambles and swears ( he writes). Further, the tasks you have to complete to continue with the story are anything but challenging.

Then again, the team might have thought it would have been too difficult in combination with the horrors of the asylum. Additionally, an aspect I found confusing is the fact there are absolutely no female characters. This was actually explained in the story itself, though I still wonder what the real reason behind the lack of female characters is.

Nevertheless, the developers manage to keep the game blood-curdling and intriguing till the end, so much that you can even overlook the bunch of trial & error moments. All in all, Outlast is probably one of the scarier horror games of this decade and an experience I recommend any true survival horror fan—or any buffoon that is brave enough to pay the asylum a visit, really.

I recommend this game mainly for the gameplay, because I honestly thought the story and characters were kinda crappy.

So gameplay wise, incredibly fun game. the PC edition runs very smoothly and looks great, and thankfully I didn't run into any glitches on my first play through. That said, on my second play through for my friend, the game glitched when i tried to Fast Travel to an earlier camp point. After killing the game ('cause it froze), when I loaded into the auto-save, it was at an older point in the game. So i went back to title screen to load the camp point save...and apparently that initial loading of the auto-save wiped out my first 97% completed save. -_-;; Thank god I already finished it and got what I wanted out of it, but wow that was irritating.

Other things I really liked was the Uncharted-esque gameplay with a splash of RPG-style stat/exp growth, so i feel like I'm working toward a goal, and can learn skills and whatnot.

what I didn't like about the game...story and characters were kind of bad. I'm not sure how everyone love it so much, but the story was incredibly predictable. Meanwhile, the game have Lara act like she have no ability to think, and drags the "I don't understand why!" out until the very end of the game. The "epiphany" she had at the end there was something I figured out about halfway through the game. It's incredibly frustrating when game developers and writers seems to think that players have no brain of their own.

Add on that all of the characters were shallow and annoying, including Lara herself. I do get that this was supposed to be before she became all badass, but the first 75% of the game was really rather irritating listening to her gasp and cry, etc., etc. The last quarter of the game, it was like a switch flipped - maybe i missed something, but to me there was no gradual change. It was just one moment she's all whiny, and next she's badass. No idea. The other characters are so under-developed, if they all died I wouldn't have cared. Several of them came straight out of The Stereotype Book.

I'm glad I only paid $5 for this. It's still a good game, looks great and plays great, as long as you don't pay too much attention to the characters and story. Overall i think i liked it (though the longer i think about how much I dislike the story and character, the less i want to recommend this game LOL)
