Note: If you're able to, get "Disgaea 1 Complete" on the PS4 or Nintendo Switch instead. Since that one has remastered sprites & additional features which will make your experience much more enjoyable, also includes additional characters.

For as long as I can remember, I've always had a fascination with numbers going up. Seeing small numbers turn to big numbers is something I absolutely love in video games, and Disgaea is the perfect game for this. They go overkill with numbers. Personally I never write reviews, but I have to for an amazing game like this. I've gotten every single achievement for this game so I believe I have a good idea of everything this game contains.

TLDR: Disgaea has big numbers

What is Disgaea?

Disgaea is a turn-based JRPG/SRPG depending on how you define it, it also has visual novel elements for telling it's story. The narrative segments take place before starting a level & after.

This game has a unique cast that I found easy to get attached to, each having their own faults and reasons for what they do. If you have an easy time getting attached to characters, you'll most definitely find a cast member in this game you can get attached to (I myself, find it very hard to get attached to cast members, and I ended up getting emotionally attached to around half the cast in this game.).

Alongside the cast, Disgaea 1 has some of the most memorable soundtracks I've listened to. Disgaea 1 does it's job very well with attaching personal meanings to these soundtracks, when you listen to some specific soundtracks you'll very well be reminded of specific characters or emotional moments in this game.

TLDR: Turn based SRPG/JRPG with visual novel elements, memorable cast & soundtracks.

What makes Disgaea so special?

Disgaea 1 has a level cap of 9,999, which is usually unheard off in video games. I've played games where the level cap is 70-100 then after that is a different type of levelling which has a large cap, but never has any impact on the character's stats. With Disgaea, each level up past 100 will still give you additional stats, there are actually post game bosses that are built to give you a tough time against lvl 9,999 characters. But with other games, I didn't really have any incentive to grind levels since at lvl 70-100 I can overpower everything. In this game, your stats can reach into the millions if you put in the effort.

This is what makes Disgaea so special to me, no other game has gone as crazy as Disgaea has with levelling and stat caps. Some Disgaea games have increased the stat caps:

Disgaea 1: 20,000,000 max for each stat
Disgaea 2: 40,000,000 max for each stat
Disgaea 4: 99,999,999 max for each stat

Disgaea 6 is going 10,000 steps further and increasing the level cap to 99,999,999 (99 million), while the stat cap is currently unknown to me. It has been confirmed you can deal over 10,000,000,000,000,000 (10 quintillion) damage!

TLDR: Disgaea is special because of it's lvl 9,999 cap and 20,000,000 stat cap. Increased to 99,999,999 stat cap in further entires, alongside the lvl cap being increased to 99,999,999 in the upcoming Disgaea 6.

How does the gameplay function in this game?

The game itself as previously mentioned is turn based, you get to control up to 10 units on each level (You can make more units then this, but this is the maximum amount of units you're allowed to dispatch). Unit's are usually split up into 2 categories:

* Story characters
* Generic characters

You're only allowed 1 of each story character, as you've probably guessed. These characters are characters which have story significance, whether it be the main story or small optional side-stories. Sometimes story characters are instantly provided to you in other Disgaea games if you play the Complete variations of them since they're DLC. Same rules apply that you are only allowed 1 of these characters.

With generic characters, you're allowed to create multiple of them. Each generic unit has their own class, most of these units have a specific purpose for being created (Example: You create a healer for the purpose of healing.). A couple of classes for example are: Healer, Mage, Warrior, Thief, Archer. These are self-explanatory for why you'd want to incorporate these classes into your team.... or don't, I managed to grind my levels up to 200-300 with Laharl (Main character) and blasted every unit that came at me through the story.

Another important thing in this game is equipment, you get 1 slot for weapons & 3 slots for accessories. You have the option to level these up in what I'd class as a mode called the item world, which to put it brief is a mode in which you go through randomly generated floors. Each time you clear a floor you add an additional level to your item, which in turns increases its overall stats.

There are features in this game that are based around levelling up, such as the reincarnation/transmigration system which puts you at lvl 1 but gives you an increase in stats. This is something you will most definitely have to do if you want to defeat the most powerful bosses in the game, you will have motive to always level up as you will always have that ultimate challenge boss to kill.

Last thing I'll mention is something unique to this game called "geo puzzles", there are multiple color panels on the floor. When a geo block is placed on a specific coloured panel, all the panels on top of that geo block that has the same colour will have a unique effect applied to them. When a unit stands on these panels, that effect will be applied to them until they step off the panel.

It's stated what the geo block effect is while hovering over it (Some effect examples are: invincibility, warp, 3x enemy boost, 20% ally damage, 20% damage etc.). If you play your cards right with this mechanic, you can wipe out enemies that are way more powerful then you. You get a random combination of geo block & panels all the time in the item world.

There's plenty more to discover in Disgaea, I believe this has given you a rough enough idea of what the game entails. I encourage you to play this game yourself and learn the extent of how much you can break this game, 1 level at a time :b

TLDR: Disgaea is a turn based game, there are plenty of units for you to create (Each with their own advantage and disadvantage), equipment is important in this game and can be levelled up, there's a mechanic in this game based around reaching high lvls then resetting at lvl 1 for an overall increase in your stats. There is an ultimate boss in this game that will require you to reach very high stats. This games unique mechanic, geo blocks can provide advantages/disadvantages to you or the enemy team.

If there's any questions you have regarding Disgaea 1, feel free to add me & DM me. I know this is a lot of information but should be enough to help you decide if this game is for you or not.

Game seems good so far, but can't recommend it purely for the map glitching issues I'm facing. While changing my CPU cores to 1 only seems to have fixed it, I shouldn't have had to do that in the first place. NISA are aware of this issue since they've replied to people in steam discussions regarding it, but they refuse to issue a patch to fix the issues 3 years later.

Game itself is great, just get it on Nintendo Switch or PS4 if you're able to. Since the fix that worked for me doesn't work for everyone, so you possibly could be left with a defective product that is impossible to fix.

This game is good, but this PC port is absolutely trash. Crashing, long loading screen, infinite loading screens after a specific boss for some people, requests glitching out that's stopped people from getting all achievements etc. Nearly a month after release and no patch is to be found.

Get this game on Playstation store if you can.

Early Access Review
I've currently played 9 hours on Star' Shoot and have noticed no one has currently made a review (English wise) for Star' Shoot, here's my review and experience from the game.

What is Star' Shoot?
Star' Shoot is a top-down shoot 'em up arcade-style game. Currently the game is in early access, it has a tutorial mode which takes you through the basics of the game and an endless mode for you to unleash destruction upon your enemies. There is a story mode planned but isn't currently implemented.

Gameplay
When you start endless mode you are given a ship which can only fire 2 small blasts at a time, but there are pick ups you can collect which will power up your ship in different ways depending on the pick up you collect.

The pick up system in this game is unique, you can only collect 1 form of pick ups at a time. Each time you collect a pick up of the same form you upgrade it with the maximum amount you can collect is 5 (The game will display this as MAX), if you were to collect another pick up it would erase all the amount of pick ups you got for the previous one. However if your "Overcharge" is at 100% you can press space to blow up your ship and then collect the parts, if you do collect all the parts your ship gets revived otherwise you'll lose 1 live point. Either way all the pick ups you have collected remain permanent throughout the rest of your current play-through. Then you can go and collect other pick ups to power up your ship even more, this adds great customisation to the game. Allowing you to try out different combos.

You have 4 lives to begin with in each play-through, each time you die the parts of your ships go flying over the place. If you manage to collect all the parts you revive your ship without losing any lives, but if your ship gets destroyed and you haven't collected all the parts your ship still gets revived but at the cost of one live point.

They also have a difficulty system in place, the further you last in your current play-through the more difficult it will get. This will lead to you discovering new enemies, attack patterns and eventually big bosses that will test your skills!

Score system
One of my favourite aspects of this game, the score system. In the game each enemy you kill adds a number to your combo streak which will multiply the amount of points you get from each enemy you destroy. You can keep adding more and more numbers onto this combo streak to rack in some crazy amount of points. But be careful because the combo streak will start going down if you do not find an enemy to destroy.

When your ship is eventually destroyed your score is revealed and is placed on the leaderboards. My current highscore is 1.8+ Million on the leaderboards, try and beat me :P

Shop
This game has a shop which you can purchase items which will aid you in your future play-throughs, these can range from new stat boosts to new weapons. You gain credits from doing play-throughs, the further you get in your play-through the more credits you will be awarded when all your live points are gone, you also gain a stack of credits when you defeat a boss.

Conclusion

I highly recommend this game for the price it's at, it's got everything an arcade game should have along with introducing some new game mechanics.

Brief note
This is my first proper review I have made for a game, it might not be the best review that exists but I hope it will give you a rough idea of what the game is like and why I highly recommend it.

Dying Light

I had some money lying in my steam wallet and saw a sale coming up, I had a hard time choosing between the games I wanted to buy but I ended up going for Dying Light, I'm so glad I did.

This game provides you with a parkour experience while at the same time allowing you to combat zombies, this can make for some amazing scenes in the game such as in night time when you're running away from zombies who can 1 hit you.

The gameplay is amazing, you can free roam the entire city and scavange items to craft some amazing weapons. The storyline is one of the best I've seen in a long time and provides you with new zombies/creatures which you will have to develeop tactics for, they will test your skill to the limits. I can assure you off that.

Overall I would recommend this game to you. Also get the enhanced edition while your at it, you won't regret it.
