Mouthwashing is a very thrilling experience, and what happens throuought the game is quite gripping to witness. I really like the non-linear storytelling, and all the characters and their struggles are very real. I genuinely dislike the fandom unfortunately, no media literacy to be found here at all. I can't mention much here without spoiling, just take a moment to think about each character once you're done playing.

Extensive explanation why Witcher 1 is a hidden gem of it's era

Hi guys #1 witcher fan here I'm bored on the bus so I will make this essay for myself and anyone that wants to read it. I will try to provide as much context as possible for those who have minimal knowledge of The Witcher as a whole.

I didn't mention many spoilers, but if you intend to play the game with no previous knowledge, proceed with caution. I won't mention anything from Witcher 2 or 3.

Story :

We all know that The Witcher games are well known for how well they convey their story, as old as this game is, the story here doesn't lack at all. The game starts very mysteriously as Geralt is being dragged on a wooden trolley to Kaer Morhen by his fellow Witchers.

I'm not going to bore you with many details, but I thought the start was an absolutely amazing way to make the game hook you in. Geralt lost his memory and we don't know why for the entirety of the game. Even so, the game does not lose it's charm at all, most likely due to the fact it's based on the books.

There are a couple of different outcomes you can come to in the game but the ending is always the same for Witcher 1.

The voice acting :

The English version is very lacking but we can see the beginning of the career for Geralt's voice actor and some of the others as well (Vesemir for one). I honestly think it gives it a lot of charm? If that makes sense. The Polish version is a lot more polished (lol) but even though they basically hired amateurs for Witcher 1, I think this sort of start does not matter at all. Witcher 1 didn't lose it's charm, even if the voice acting was a little silly at times.

Music :

Music, like the story, is the very backbone of Witcher games. It never fails to absolutely immerse me in the game and I am very happy they also kept a lot of themes from Witcher 1 in future games. I don't have much to say because I don't know music theory, but I am absolutely in love with the OST.

Gameplay :

The gameplay... was okay. I like the fact you have to learn a lot of the monsters and herbs in order to collect certain ingredients because obviously Geralt has lost his memory. The inventory is a little wonky sometimes, potions sometimes refuse to stack. It's nice that the alchemical ingredients have a seperate inventory. The combat... is absolutely infuriating. You improve your character stats, and based on those stats you have a higher/lower chance to do certain things. The same goes for the enemies. If you don't build Geralt properly, you're gonna end up like me in endgame where I got stunlocked by the mutant enemy. The build sometimes doesn't even matter. There's poison, bleed, pain, stun, blind. All of those are dependant on chance. Aard was my best friend (the air magic) because quen (the shield magic) is just very lacking in here. You have to relearn all the signs as well but you basically get all of them in the first half of the game.

Conclusion :

If I was to write about the whole story, this would take me 3 hours to write. I absolutely love this game to bits, and as much as it pained me to play it, I will play it again in the future.

Absolutely amazing series. Love the books and love the games. I might be biased but I absolutely love slavic legends and open world games. Would always recommend!
