After spending two hours with this game, it's clear that none of the issues from the first installment have been addressed. The combat remains stiff and unresponsive, with animations that can't be interrupted and nonsensical mechanics where enemies can hit through being hit. The blocking fatigue system is poorly designed and feels clunky. Once again, EA has failed to successfully emulate the leveling system of Tomb Raider while trying to blend in the combat style of Dark Souls. The story is the only redeeming feature of this game. Additionally, even a year after its release, the game performs terribly, requiring constant shader recompilations. What an absolute disaster...

Finished this game around ~17hrs. Here is my review:

The Good:
- Great Story and overall remake
- Puzzles were not too difficult and suitable, and not a hassle compared to RE2
- Overall gunplay is unique
- Upgrading valuables to become even more valuable
- Tons of weapons like the original with plenty of upgrades
- Addition of charms providing handy stats and more customizability with expanding your weapon case.
- Making knifes a weapon is something Capcom should implement more often, love the knife fights and parrying for defense.
- Boss fights are really fun putting you through unique areas to fight
- Runs great and looks great (Even though RTX has some crashing issues)
- Keeps the horror aspect of the Village and the amount of enemies compared to all the other RE games makes me feel like a gunslinger.
- Bullet sponging isn't as noticeable as the other RE games, it feels a lot more satisfying getting kills.
- Lots of 'sub-quests' and missions from the Merchant
- Challenging 'Shooting Range' mini-games by the Merchant to collect charms.
- Keeps the high replay ability in the future with harder achievements and items to use
- You can put a literal x8 scope on a sub-machine gun
- Kept the iconic 'Bingo' one liner

The Ugly:
- Awful movement compared to RE2 and RE3 remake. feels really stiff and sometimes can get you hit easily
- Sub-machine guns are very strange in this game, not accurate and downright awful (like the TMP)
- Ada's VC sounds like she is unenthused
- Ashley's AI and commands are kind of wacky, sometimes commanding her to stay behind doesn't work half the time and results in getting her downed
- Can't kill the Merchant for fun like the original

This is definitely a huge step up from RE3 remake, everything in RE4 was captured perfectly, from the start to the end and the characters like the Merchant still have their same charm they did 18 years ago.
I hope Capcom keeps the same momentum with any other remake they make in the future like Code Veronica (hopefully), 9/10 fantastic remake.

If I can wipe my memory and play any game over again, it would be this game. A Way Out has a fantastic story, interesting decision based mechanics, immersive gameplay, and decent graphics. This game is still better than 80% of the games I have played in 2020-2021.

Still after the Patchnote on the 7/21 I still can't recommend this game. I am going to talk about its optimization first. As made on Unity engine, this game is way to buggy and the launch should have been delayed for sure. The optimization is absolutely awful and the amount of prominent bugs present after a full week of being out is ridiculous. The item glitch where you can't see your items makes you reset your whole progress unless you can play without seeing your hands. Closing the door and holding on ghosts in some instances still causes you to die through the door. Co-op is horrendous, sometimes my friends load in and I am stuck in the lobby literally floating on their screen. Prop building and bugging is also very annoying. I stepped on a tricycle twice and bugged out of the map even after the latest patch.

Gameplay wise, you don't even need to leave the entrance of every map since the ghosts are so aggressive. You can literally stay at the entrance and be hand fed evidence. The only time you need to leave the entrance is if you need to light the incense in the ghost room, or find the pentacle. Oculates barely give you any money compared to photos and half the items are completely useless and overpriced. Paranormal difficulty gives you barely any more money compared to simple ~50.

Even with the outrageous optimization, bugs, and annoying gameplay, this game still has its own charm and uniqueness of exorcising the ghost. Despite its issues, it is a very fun game especially with friends. However, to put this game up for $18, there needs to be a lot of work done and balancing in this game to compete with phasmophobia such as VR and more maps. If you are interested in buying, I would recommend either wait a bit until the game gets more updates, or wait for it to go on sale because with nearly ~10 hrs it gets boring very quick.

After 130 hrs of gameplay at LVL 450 in Desktop and VR it is safe to say I chewed all the replay value out of this game:

What this game did good:
1. Really fun with friends (You can try to kill them or work together with them). However, it is scarier alone.
2. Scary for the first 2ish hours since you don't know what to expect.
3. Strategy to figure out the ghost. This is the most interesting and unique mechanic this game has. Each ghost is unique since they all act a certain way.
4. Updates to make the gameplay harder. This is good because there have been times when the game was really easy and many updates came out to make the ghost feel like an actual threat.
5. Using your actual voice to communicate with the ghosts is really interesting.
6. Small and Large maps. Want a quick game? Pick any house. Want a long game? Pick High School, Asylum, or Prison.
7. Worth it for the price drop to $14 IF you have friends to play with.

What this game did bad:
1. Gameplay feels more like chores the more you play, you start to realize the "replay" value is the exact same thing:
Find Room -> Bring Equipment -> Find Evidence -> Complete Same Objectives -> Leave
2. Really bad VR port, so many game breaking bugs, easier to bug yourself out of the map than to find the ghost room.
3. More bugs that still haven't been fixed or addressed like ghosts phasing through doors without opening them, item flickering, Edgefield Street House has awful fps drops in VR due to all the unnecessary props.
4. Holding Shift should automatically toggle like VR since "sprinting" is walking in this game. Why would I want to go slower in this game, srsly? It already takes a whole min. to walk from van to the front prison door.
5. Literally 1/2 of the items are useless. EDIT: New objectives gave light to some equipment to be used like candles, and smudge sticks.
6. Remember that this game is made by 1 dev, so don't expect a lot of content, rather expect a lot of gameplay changes that make the game harder. Also past the 30 hr mark I noticed this game started to get really boring, and past the 2hr mark it is not really scary.

My Recommendation (TLDR):
If you are going to buy it, don't expect the VR port to be Boneworks tier AND play this game in rations to avoid it getting stale or boring (don't play to level up). Other than these issues and suggestions, this game is really fun and I hope in the future more games adapt to this type of gameplay.

6/10 so close to barely passing, EA somehow barely managed to make combat hardly better than a total war game.
