Help us find a compromise for the removal of this chat command.

A group dedicated to raising awareness of the removal of the /me command due to its abuse by a small number of scammers taking advantage of those who don't know about the command's existence.

We offer alternatives to the outright removal of this much loved feature, and encourage all who wish to keep this feature to visit the "Steam Client Beta" group and voice their opinions in either of the two main discussions there currently active.

For those of you who don't know what it is, /me is a chat command that allows you to communicate in the third person.

instead of
Gordon3465: *waves hello*
by typing "/me waves hello" in the chatbox it would come out like this
Gordon3465 waves hello

this is a much smoother, cleaner option that looks nicer in chats and allows you to clearly locate these messages instead of looking for asterisks. steam has a massive roleplaying community and this is nearly essential for them but they are being punished because somone on the forums happened to complain about a few scammers using it.

a REASONABLE post as to why you wouldn't want /me back is allowed. assuming it stays in one comment, two if you must use that much space although, one of the admins is likely to debate it..
opposing an opinion is different from trolling, troll comments will be deleted by one of the admins as soon as they are noticed.

After years of it being missed, begged for, and otherwise ignored /me is finally returning to steam! To be quite honest I really have never been active in this group so I want to take a short moment to recognize a person who helped organize this group.

Gordon3465 was the original founder of this group and the main facilitator of the /me revival voice til his departure. Give Gordon a thanks if you ever encounter him!
I would also take a look at some of the things being added to steam http://node2.projectplanet.cn/@steamcommunity.com/updates/chatupdate
It's important at times like these to look at the realpolitik and see why steam is doing this. Keep in mind steam took /me away as a feature years ago and gave no explanation, and taking away user features without question is certainly not an acceptable practice.
In regards to the group : I'm not really sure what the purpose of the group is any longer. It seems hardly active, and somewhat lackluster in the administrative department. I would love to hear opinions on the matter.

All in all... /me is back! (and hopefully to stay!)

just noticed its back.. and.. Sol really?

I never had an issue last year with it cause I had a decent pc.. an actual decent pc. not some weird flex.

only problem, the removed features and the more resource heavy beta chat making my games lag isn't worth /me, they should have just added back in the code they snipped years ago....

If it's still like this when beta becomes release, I'm never loading Steam again and cracking all the games I purchased on it.
