Keep your account safe

Lately more and more people seems to have been compromised by someone asking them to vote for their team on a website, the site itself doesn't look out of the ordinary, but as soon as you click on something, you get a page where you're asked to login, which looks quite like the original one, do not do it if you value your account.

If you think someone is trying to steal your account, go to their profile and report them.

Always make sure to login first on the real Steam website, so then you'd get a popup asking you to login via the Steam API, without having to use your credentials, while keeping you safe.

@Nick Where can you turn on strict email verification? Can't find that option.

Just a heads up: only enabling Steam Guard two-factor authentication is NOT enough. :bsod:
Once you try to sign up or log in using Steam, you won't even notice they're using your account to contact (then block or delete) people on your friend list... :spazdunno:

If you want to proper hunker down into Vault-Mode you should consider using both the Steam Authenticator, AND strict email verifications. The bad guys would have to hack not only your password, but your email AND phone as well, unlikely. If you're part of Games Collectors group I highly urge these tactics and measures.

Also watch out for links sent via text! They can also hijack your steam account by compromising your phone.

@FiatLux that's wrong. Sites that require login with Steam are safest. Just don't enter steam credentials on third party sites, normally it's never needed to login with Steam.

in general try to avoid sites that require you to log in through Steam. At least unless that you are %100 sure that the site is legit !
