Steam Profanity Filter for cross platform play title
Hey Steam Labs, I'm representing a game company that is close to be publising a cross play platform title and we have some issues with filtering profanity using the default Steam profanity filtering methods on Steam client.

What we've manage to filter is the word ♥♥♥♥♥♥ (***** appear instead of it) but no other english word works to filter. (we've taken a look at the filter_banned_english dictionary and there are all sorts of words and rules but none seem to apply (for exmaple, word ♥♥♥♥ is not filtered). Btw, for the words that work, I can see it filtered in Steam client (in steam menu, my username has the right ****) so this seems more related to what Steam does and how it filters bad names.

Why would that be?

Could you point me to an email address/channel where I can send more information about the issue we are having and also details about the title (whcih is already on Steam but not yet released).
Is is safe to assume the profanity filter from Steam would be good enough to filter bad words to comply with regulations on other platforms (Switch, PS, XBox)?

Thank you.

PS: Is there a way to try the filter in a safe manner (for now, all I can do is to change my profile name and see wheather is working or not which is not too good, I think Steam detects that and denies these changes after a few tries which makes testing the feature impossible.

Hey, thanks for reaching out. Yeah, testing via persona name wouldn't work, but you could also probably use a chat message and adjust each account's settings here https://node2.projectplanet.cn/@store.steampowered.com/account/preferences#CommunityContentPreferences to explore things?

We do have some documentation and info about this flow here,
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/api/ISteamUtils#InitFilterText
and
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/api/ISteamUtils#FilterText

But users also have control over what they want to filter on a per customer basis via the settings page I linked above, https://node2.projectplanet.cn/@store.steampowered.com/account/preferences#CommunityContentPreferences - so it's possible multiple players have different settings and options and would see different results for identical text.

We don't know what Nintendo, Sony or Xbox require in this space so you'd need to check with each of those platforms to learn more about their standards and requirements, sorry!
