Thats actually kinda funny to say "at least they know what the laws mean" how do you really know that the average politician knows what the law means, these days its all about campaign money and you can easily circumvent the law if you donate cash to someones campaign, as long as you keep payin, they will keep pushing for the legislation you want passed, no matter if it benefits the nation or not. Welcome to the world of career politicians and people who would rather have their name in the news than actually do right by their voters. @Heinrich You're misinterpreting the law. It only says A) The government will not give benefits to same-sex partners, and B) States don't have to recognize inter-state laws legalizing same-sex marriage. When it says a marriage is between a man and a woman, it never says that it's illegal to marry same-sex couples. If it did, then you wouldn't see states making it legal and you would see the feds come in and stop it. The government may be run by idiots, but at least they know what the laws mean.

And it's not in the constitution that it says that. It's a federal statue, meaning it is in the long list of laws passed by congress in the US. But for it to be in the constitution, it would need to be an amendment, which it is not.

@Theisman, In the U.S., it is actually, legally speaking, illegal, for two gays to marry. In the U.S. constitution it says that marriage is between a man and a woman... thus voiding it from alteration in State constitutions... thus what States are doing is Federally illegal, and the Federal government could legally void all gay marriages ^^
